SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating after a body was found on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton Thursday afternoon.According to CHP, the body of a 51-year-old man was found on the exit ramp from I-5 north to Christianitos Road.Once officers arrived, they found the San Clemente man out of view in the brush next to the road.The San Diego County Medical Examiner responded to the scene and is trying to determine the cause of death. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of a 14-year-old girl is shocked by her sudden death that could be flu-related.Julianna Campos died Feb. 12, after complaining of a headache and cold-like symptoms.Imelda Leyva, Julianna’s grandmother, said Julianna went to take a nap and never woke up. Julianna didn't have any health issues, according to the family.Doctors confirmed Julianna tested positive for the flu, according to her grandmother. However, they are still investigating whether the flu was the cause of death.Julianna’s family plans to hold her funeral on March 9. Family members also started a GoFundMe page to help pay for her services.As of 8:17 p.m. Wednesday night, the fund had raised more than ,200 of its ,000 goal. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The City of San Diego is planning on expand its designated scooter parking zones to Ocean Beach. The Mayor’s staff recently sent a list and map of 106 prospective locations to the Ocean Beach planning board. The scooter corrals are similar to the on-street parking the city has already installed downtown. The ‘Micro Mobility Parking Corrals’ - as the city calls them - are installed at red curb spaces that do not block traffic, fire hydrants or impede visibility. The Mayor’s office says it is working with community groups to find suitable locations in OB and they plan to have feedback by June 10th. 630

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said up to 8,000 inmates statewide could be released early in order to stop the spread of coronavirus within prisons, and the San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan is now working to alert victims and families as people are released.“Those are people that cause a public safety risk and a real concern for us,” said Stephan.One known inmate being released in the next week is David Herbert, an Oceanside man who was convicted of torturing and killing dogs. He was sentenced to nine years in 2019 but has served a fraction of that. Now, Michelle Plaketta, whose dog was killed by Herbert, is worried about the safety of her family.RELATED: Oceanside man who tortured neighbors' dogs may be released early due to COVID-19“The system is basically failing us as victims to allow him to be released on such a short time,” Plaketta said.Stephan said at the end of July, about 300 inmates from San Diego County who had committed lower-level crimes were released early and returned back to society. In that group was Martin Alvarez, the man suspected of stabbing another man to death in a Pacific Beach bathroom in August.
