A new study shows that women who take birth control pills are less likely to develop the most aggressive types of ovarian cancer. "Among those who used the birth control pills, there were 46 percent lower odds of being diagnosed with ovarian cancer that resulted in death within 12 months of the diagnosis," Jennifer Mongiovi, a PhD student at the University at Buffalo and one of the authors of the study, said. The research also found over a five year period birth control pills reduced the likelihood fatal ovarian cancer by 32 percent. "By taking birth control pills, you can stop as much damage being done to your ovaries from your ovulation, and essentially lower your risk of future damage, such as cancer," Mongiovi said. However, researchers said that before you go out and buy birth control pills, you should consult with your doctor about your medical history and what is appropriate given your circumstances."With anything there are trade offs on both sides. Birth control is a hormone so you are potentially putting yourself at a greater risk of breast cancer. So that's something you definitely need to review your medical history. What essentially is the biggest risk to you," Mongiovi said. The research was conducted at Roswell Park. 1259

An Alaska Airlines flight from San Francisco to Philadelphia was forced to divert, all thanks to a belligerent passenger who tried twice to light up inside the cabin.Passengers boarding Alaska Airlines' red-eye flight 1138 in San Francisco were in for quite a surprise. Over halfway through the flight, they had to divert to Chicago. One of their fellow passengers tried to break one of the cardinal rules of modern air travel: do not smoke on airplanes. Then the passenger refused to comply with flight crew instructions by trying to light up a cigarette -- again.About an hour before they were supposed to land in Philadelphia, pilots were forced to divert to O'Hare International Airport."Due to a disruptive passenger onboard and out of an abundance of caution, the flight was diverted to Chicago and landed at 4:22 a.m. local time," Alaska Airlines told CNN.Chicago Police say they were asked to meet the plane because of the cigarette-lighting passenger, who "was somewhat belligerent."While the individual was escorted off the plane without incident, the diversion added an hour onto the other passengers' red-eye flight, since the plane needed refueling. It's unclear if the passenger will face any punishment for their actions. The FAA, which enforces the regulations the passenger violated, told CNN the incident is under investigation.Chicago Police say they did not make an arrest. The FBI and US Marshals tell CNN they did not make any arrest either.According to the agency's own recommendations, a flight attendant or pilot in charge should be filing a noncompliance report.CNN has asked Alaska Airlines if the crew from the flight has filed a report but has not yet received a response. 1711

A New Jersey man was charged on three criminal counts Tuesday after being accused of coughing on a grocery store clerk and claiming he has coronavirus, the New Jersey Attorney General announced. George Falcone was charged on three counts: Terroristic threats, obstructing administration of law enfocement, and harassment. The most serious charge, terroristic threats, carries a punishment of up to five years, and a ,000 fine. The New Jersey Attorney General said that the incident happened Sunday evening at the Wegmans in Manalapan, New Jersey. The employee was reportedly concerned that Falcone was standing too close to her and an open display of prepared foods, so she requested that he step back as she covered the food. Instead, Falcone allegedly stepped forward to within 3 feet of her, leaned toward her, and purposely coughed, the attorney general's office said. He allegedly laughed and said he was infected with the coronavirus.“These are extremely difficult times in which all of us are called upon to be considerate of each other— not to engage in intimidation and spread fear, as alleged in this case,” said Attorney General Grewal. “We must do everything we can to deter this type of conduct and any similar conduct that harms others during this emergency. Just as we are cracking down on bias offenses and those who use the pandemic to fuel hatred and prejudice, we vow to respond swiftly and strongly whenever someone commits a criminal offense that uses the coronavirus to generate panic or discord.” 1535

A mother of two is turning Goodwill into glamour. Jenny Carlson says she was tired of spending hundreds of dollars on her kids’ clothes.“Kids clothing is so expensive,” said Carlson. “They grow out of it so quickly or they stain it in a second, and you’ve spent on a shirt, and now it’s ruined.”Carlson decided to take matters into her own hands. Now, she’s not only saving money, but earning it too. “I sell handmade or repurposed or vintage children’s clothing and accessories,” Carlson said. Carlson makes shopping trips to Goodwill, looking for donated items to reuse as fabric. "There's so much clothing that gets put into the landfill each year," said Carlson. Those unique patterns and colors will get turned into new and unique children's outfits. “I’ve been sewing since I was 8 years old,” said Carlson. “My grandmother sewed, and my mother sewed.”Carlson mix matches fabrics to make items like dresses, vests, bows and bonnets. At first, Carlson made clothes for her children to save money, but over time, her hobby morphed into a real business called Sweet Basil Avenue. She sells on Etsy to customers all over the world. “It's made from used or vintage clothing," said Carlson. “They range from to .” It’s all depending on size and how much fabric she used. Not all of us are crafty like Carlson, but she says it's not about sewing or making money. It's about doing something that makes you happy. “Everybody needs a hobby of some kind that brings them joy,” said Carlson. 1507
