PRETORIA, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin on Tuesday discussed with South African President Jacob Zuma on seeking stronger bilateral relations and coordinating the two countries' stances on climate change.Jia first extended the warm greetings and good wishes of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Zuma, who in return conveyed his greetings to Hu. Hu and Zuma have met several times on the sidelines of the international summits since Zuma took presidency last May.Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top advisory body, was making the visit at the invitation of the National Council of Provinces of South Africa. BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao has called for the creation of a more competitive and innovative workforce in the country, with the focus on training more top-notch specialists.At a central work conference on human resources in Beijing from Tuesday to Wednesday, President Hu Jintao said human resources were essential to the development of the Party and the state, and the quality of China's workforce was still poor compared to that of developed countries.China would enhance its workforce's strength, and the fostering of high-caliber professionals would be a priority, Hu said in a statement released after the meeting.Chinese President Hu Jintao addresses a central work conference on human resources held from May 25 to May 26 in Beijing, capital of China. Hu Jintao has called for the creation of a more competitive and innovative workforce in the country, with the focus on training more top-notch specialists.He said China would work to have a large high-quality workforce and to be a strong world power in terms of human resources by 2020.Party committees and governments at all levels must create an environment where talent can emerge and be put to use, he said.He also said innovation would be fully encouraged and supported by the government, and it was a strategic task to foster young talents.At the conference, Premier Wen Jiabao pledged more support to high-caliber creative specialists that are urgently needed in China.The government would encourage and help them and overseas Chinese students find employment or start up businesses in China, he said.Wen said China would increase its funding for the training and education of high-caliber specialists, with investments coming from the government, individuals, enterprises and social organizations.Vice President Xi Jinping said the government would promptly introduce major human resource programs to help realize the national goal.All members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee attended the conference.

NANJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- One fisherman was confirmed dead and 16 others were still missing after two boats capsized Wednesday night at sea off Lianyungang city in east China's Jiangsu Province, local maritime bureau said Friday.Rescuers discovered the body of the fisherman Friday afternoon, and were still searching for the missing people, although their chances of survival were slim, according to Lianyungang's sea search and rescue center.Of the 17, seven are from Anhui Province and the others from Sheyang County, Jiangsu.At around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a boat registered in Jiangsu capsized because of strong gale and high tide about 200 sea miles from Lianyungang, throwing 12 fishermen on board into the water.The other boat, with 11 people on board and in the same fleet, capsized as it attempted to save them.By Thursday noon, of the 23 fishermen, six have been rescued by a nearby fishing boat.

HONG KONG, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held Friday a grand funeral ceremony to say goodbye to well-known businessman Tsui Tsin-tong, who was also a noted social activist, philanthropist and a close friend to the Communist Party of China.Tsui was also a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee before he died of an illness on April 2 this year in the Chinese capital of Beijing at the age of 69.Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, the country's top advisory body, and Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping had both sent messages of condolences to Tsui's family after Tsui's death.In their messages of condolences, Jia and Xi praised Tsui for his great contributions to Hong Kong's stable transition, smooth handover from Britain to China and Hong Kong's lasting prosperity, as well as Tsui's contributions to Chinese mainland's reform-and- opening-up drive and modernization.Tsui's funeral ceremony was held at Hong Kong's landmark Convention and Exhibition Center in the day. Tsui's cinerary casket was covered with a Chinese national flag.Tung Chee-hwa, vice chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Chief Executive of the HKSAR Donald Tsang and Peng Qinghua, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR attended the funeral ceremony.Peng recalled in his memorial speech Tsui's life, his contributions to Chinese mainland's reform-and-opening-up drive and modernization as well as China's peaceful re-unification.Hundreds of representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, the HKSAR government, Hong Kong's Legislative Council and other government agencies, as well as Tsui's friends, also attended Tsui's funeral ceremony.
