Nine months into the COVID-19 pandemic and many people are inching by by making minimum payments on credit cards.But with Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation set to expire next month, staying in good standing with your credit card companies may be getting harder.Many credit card companies are willing to set up a payment plan and waive fees or lower interests on your payments for a certain period of time, but there’s always fine print. There are other options without impacting your credit score.Getting by by making minimum payments on her credit cards, Jana Krause is feeling financially strapped."I'm finding myself in a position that I was able to make my credit card payments on time. Now I'm concerned that that’s not going to be a happening thing coming up in the next months," Krause said.With the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation set to expire next month, Krause reached out to her credit card companies hoping she can lower her minimum payments without having to go into a hardship program that would freeze her account and potentially impact her credit score."I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place," Krause said. "I've never experienced something like this in my life. I've never been out of a job."At 74, Krause is considered high risk for COVID-19, and going back to teaching wellness classes is not an option for her.Sara Rathner, a credit card expert at the finance company Nerd Wallet, said Krause is not alone."You can look into other options to free up cash in your budget to fulfill other obligations," Rathner said. "Turn to your utility companies, your landlord, your mortgage company, see what sorts of help they can provide. Maybe by freeing up cash in that way you’ll still be able to meet the minimum payments on your credit card."And if that’s not possible, research personal loans or debt consolidation programs. But beware of scams."You can start with non-profit credit counseling that can help you come up with a debt repayment plan and debt consolidation, or even just get help reworking your budget to see if you can free up money to pay your bills," Rathner said.Krause said she’s already cost-conscious doing groceries."I'm not going to one of my favorite stores and getting my favorite treats, nothing. I mean, all that’s been cut out," Krause said.Hardship payments programs may not be for everyone, but Rathner said weigh your priorities before you knock it."In an emergency, your credit score doesn’t need to be your first priority," Rathner said. "You can get yourself into a more stable situation and then focus on rebuilding your credit from there. Attorney Bobbi Sternheim told a Manhattan judge Tuesday that Ghislaine Maxwell faces more restrictive conditions than inmates convicted of terrorism or murder. She asked a judge to intervene on her client's behalf. She said Maxwell has no history of mental health issues or suicidal thoughts. Maxwell is being held without bail in a federal facility in Brooklyn as she awaits a July trial. Prosecutors declined to comment.Maxwell's arrest earlier this year came less than a year after Epstein died by suicide while being held on sex trafficking charges. NORTON, Kan. – A Kansas nursing home has been hit hard by COVID-19.All 62 of the residents at the Andbe Home in Norton have tested positive for the novel coronavirus and 10 of the patients have died as a result of the disease, according to the Norton County Health Department.In a press release, the health department said Monday that one of the surviving residents has been hospitalized and the remaining 51 are being cared for at the privately-owned nursing home facility.Additionally, the department says some staff members have tested positive for the virus, though a specific number was not provided.

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Orlando Ortega posted a Facebook video of his now-former co-worker, Eileen Marcinkowski, calling him the N-word Sunday. The video has more than 150,000 views.But the owner of the restaurant where the incident took place said the video doesn't tell the whole story. “The lady in the video he actually did hit. She had blood on her face, she was bleeding," said Jane Thursfield, owner of Cactus Jack. Thursfield said Ortega provoked the fight when he punched Marcinkowski in the face after he was let go by the restaurant. Scripps station WFTX in Fort Myers could see no evidence of blood on Marcinkowski's face in the Facebook video. The owner said even if Marcinkowski was provoked, the racial comments were not OK. “No, no, of course not," Thursfield said. "No, we don’t condone that at all.”Other customers, like Johnny Samz, who said he regularly eats at Cactus Jack, agreed. “I don’t think it’s ever good, for anybody to use the N-word," said Samz. "I don’t care what the circumstances are.” WFTX's Jasmine Minor asked since Ortego no longer worked at the restaurant, if Marcinkowski would face the same fate. “She is still working here, yeah," said Thursfield. "I have not been here long and she’s working, but we will obviously address that.” The owner said the incident took place "off-the-clock" and "off business property." NEW YORK — The iconic Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade won't march through Manhattan this year as it traditionally has for decades, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday.In a statement, Macy's said that while it won't be able to utilize its traditional parade route, the event will still be broadcast nationwide on Thanksgiving morning. The made-for-TV special will showcase all the balloons, floats and performances of the parade from Herald Square in Manhattan, and will still be capped off with an appearance by Santa Claus.While the country continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic, de Blasio said large gatherings like parades still have to wait."It will not be the same parade we're used to," the mayor said. "It will be a different kind of event. They're reinventing the event for this moment in history."De Blasio assured that people will still be able to feel "the spirit and joy" of the event that day both on television and online."Not a live parade, but something that will really give us that warmth and that great feeling we have on Thanksgiving day," he said.Macy's and the city previously worked to reinvent their iconic Fourth of July fireworks display over this past summer.Other changes to the parade include:Balloons anchored to vehicles instead of held by attendantsNo participants under 18 years oldNo appearances by high school or college bands.
