BUCHAREST, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said Tuesday that China values its ties with Romania and is willing to work with the Romanian people to enhance cooperation and cement friendship. Xi made the remarks when meeting with people from all walks of life in Romania, including parliament leaders, government officials, former ambassadors to China and others.     The Chinese and the Romanian people enjoy profound friendship, Xi said. They have respected and supported each other and treated each other on an equal footing since the two countries established diplomatic ties 60 years ago. BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday again expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, urging the U.S. to respect China's core interests and withdraw related arms sales plan.     "The U.S. arms sales to Taiwan infringe upon China's security interest as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and interfere with China's internal affairs," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu in a statement.     Jiang made the comments in response to a reporter's question on U.S. government approval for Raytheon Company to sell 1.1 billion U.S. dollars of Patriot antimissile system to Taiwan.     "We have raised solemn representations to the U.S. side," said Jiang. "We urge the U.S. to stop arms sales to Taiwan to avoid undermining China-U.S. cooperation."     Jiang said, "We urge the U.S. to clearly recognize the severe consequences of arms sales to Taiwan, reject the cold war mentality, and adhere to the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, especially the principles established in the Joint Communique on Aug. 17, 1982."     The "Aug. 17 communique" stated that the U.S. would not seek to carry out a long-term policy of arms sales to Taiwan, and intended to gradually reduce arms sales.     "We also persuade the Raytheon Company to stop pushing or participating in arms sales to Taiwan, and refrain from doing anything that harms China's sovereignty and security interest," Jiang said.

BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's upcoming state visits to Malaysia and Singapore would comprehensively push forward China's ties with the two nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said an official with the Foreign Ministry here Friday.     Hu will pay state visits to Malaysia and Singapore from Nov. 10to 13, at the invitations of Malaysian Supreme Head of State Mizan Zainal Abidin and Singaporean President S. R. Nathan.     It is the first time for President Hu Jintao to pay state visits to Malaysia and Singapore as president of China, and it is also the first time in 15 years for a Chinese President to visit the two countries, said Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue at a news briefing.     During his stay in Malaysia, Hu will hold talks with Supreme Head of State Mizan and meet with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.     "President Hu's visit to Malaysia will surely further deepen strategic cooperation between the two nations and advance bilateral ties," said the assistant foreign minister.     While in Singapore, he will hold talks with President Nathan and meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.     President Hu will exchange views with Singaporean leaders on deepening mutually beneficial and cooperative ties, and discuss international and regional issues of common concern," said the assistant foreign minister.     Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce Yi Xiaozhun said China and the two countries had good economic and trade relations and were each other's important trade partners.     In Malaysia, the two sides will sign economic and trade cooperative documents to push forward joint projects in the infrastructure area.     While in Singapore, leaders of both nations will discuss on how to promote bilateral trade and investment, advance major cooperative projects and enhance cooperation within the framework of regional and international trade.     "We believe that President Hu's visit will surely expand the scale of economic and trade cooperation between China and the two countries, and promote the sustained and stable development of bilateral relations, " Yi said.

BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua)-- Premier Wen Jiabao admitted Sunday that it'd be good if lending by Chinese banks had not been growing on a too large scale as a result of the government's immediate response to the global financial crisis."It would be good if our bank lending was more balanced, better structured and not on such a large scale," he said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency.     Wen said the State Council had noticed the problem in the middle of the year and moved to correct it. SINGAPORE, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao met here Wednesday evening with Singaporean President S. R. Nathan, with both exchanging views on further developing bilateral ties between the two countries.     President Hu said that as the two countries are to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year, China is ready to provide Singapore with a pair of pandas for joint research in a bid to further enhance the friendly feelings between the people of the two countries. Singapore hopes to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in various areas such as economy and trade, tourism and education and to expand cooperation at local levels, he added.     Nathan said Singapore is also ready to expand cooperation with China in the area of human resource development.     Noting that Asia is frequently striken by natural disasters, Nathan said China has accumulated valuable experience in disaster relief during the severe earthquakes in Sichuan last year and in post-disaster rehabilitation for other countries to learn from.     Before the meeting, Nathan held a welcome ceremony for Hu.     President Hu arrived here Wednesday afternoon for a state visit to Singapore. This is the final leg of his two-nation Southeast Asia trip, which has already taken him to Malaysia.     During his stay in Singapore, President Hu will also attend the Economic Leaders Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) slated for Nov. 14-15.
