SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested Wednesday night after police say she hit her neighbor with her SUV in Chollas View.According to police, the incident happened on the 200 block of 47th Street near the 47th Street Trolley Station around 2 p.m. Police say the victim, only described as a 50-year-old white man, saw a woman, later identified as Tantrina Spencer-Simmons, 24, beating her 8-year-old sister with a belt. According to police, the victim confronted Simmons about the beating when she put her younger sister into a white Mitsubishi SUV. While the victim stood in the parking lot calling police, authorities say Simmons stepped on the gas and “intentionally ran over the male victim.”Simmons then fled the scene. Police say the victim sustained severe and life-threatening injuries. Police were able to locate and arrest Simmons on the 4500 block of Market Street around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. 915

"Top Gun" fans looking forward to recapturing that loving feeling with Maverick and the crew will have to wait another year.Paramount's "Top Gun: Maverick" has been delayed to allow for more flight training time, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will now land in theaters June 26, 2020, instead of July 12, 2019.The sequel to the 1986 action hit "Top Gun" will see Tom Cruise reprise his role as "Maverick" and co-star Miles Teller.Teller is set to star as the son of fighter pilot "Goose," the friend opposite to Cruise's character who dies in the original film (spoilers, but come on. It's been years.)TMZ reported in May that Cruise was in San Diego on the first day of filming. Video captured by TMZ showed Cruise speeding down a landing strip on a motorcycle. The location appeared to be at Naval Air Station North Island on Coronado. The film is being directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also directed Cruise in the 2013 sci-fi flick "Oblivion." Cruise has said the sequel will retain the same style as the original and the film's musical score would be similar as well.Parts of the original "Top Gun" were shot in San Diego. Kansas City Barbeque has been rebuilt after burning down in 2008, though hosted some memorable scenes. An Oceanside home was used as the residence for Maverick's love interest, Charlie. Parts of the movie were also filmed in Bankers Hill and Point Loma. But for now, fans will have to wait to until 2020 to fulfill their need. Their need for speed. 1525

"Lemonade stand! Snack bar!" they shout loudly. At the corner of Peabody Drive and Hardy Cash Drive in Hampton, Virginia you'll find a group of determined kids."We are raising money for single mothers that are struggling. They have to do so much on their own," said 11-year-old Cartier Carey.Cartier is the leader of the "Carti Pack" and CEO of his lemonade stand, one unlike any other."We sell lemonade, chips, candy - all types of stuff that people want, and it's not expensive," he said. Each dollar spent towards a cup of the summertime drink and goodies on the side goes towards buying diapers for local families in need."The diapers are for mothers or anyone that has babies," Cartier said. It's an unusual business model, but one that's working."There's a shortage of Pampers and wipes in the stores because of the pandemic, so this couldn't have come at a better time," said Anthony Carey, Cartier's dad.A rising sixth-grader like Cartier and his friends could be out playing sports or riding bikes, but instead, they're helping single mothers in the community."There are a lot of grown-ups out there not doing what we're doing," Cartier said."As a parent, it makes me feel spectacular," Anthony said. This lemonade stand isn't a first for Cartier. He started the non-profit Kids 4 Change 757 about a year ago."Not only are they helping older adults, but [they're also] helping children see they can make a change inside of their community," Anthony said.So far this week, Cartier and his friends have raised ,200, most of which is going to buy the diapers."I'm shocked," Cartier said.Cartier and his friends will be out in Hampton at the corner of Peabody Drive and Hardy Cash Drive through Friday.WTKR's Chelsea Donovan first reported this story. 1763

"Elder Orphans" are on the rise due to increased isolation due to COVID-19 and experts say it’s also causing an uptick in elder abuse.“It's worse now than it's ever been,” says Anthony Cirillo, an aging and caregiving expert and president of the "Aging Experience," a company that focuses on elder care and caregiving issues. Elder abuse was a problem before COVID-19 hit. The pandemic only exacerbated it, Cirillo said.“We’re all going through these kinds of things and I think you become more vulnerable and emotional and become more open to listening to people who might be trying to exploit you. So isolation is just a killer right now,” says Cirillo.Debby Bitticks says her father-in-law became a victim of elder abuse.“I was really naive in assuming that this person was going to give quality care turned out to be a crook,” Bitticks said. “Everything that you could possibly read about that could go wrong with elder abuse was happening with my father-in-law.”Well before the coronavirus, elder abuse was happening right before her eyes.“We had to hire a private investigator. Of course we notified social services, had to hire an elder care lawyer, yes, we did save his life and brought him to live with us,” Bitticks said. She turned the experience into a movie called "Saving our Parents."“We just want to let people know inspect what you except,” Bitticks said. “Don’t ever assume that your parents are OK without knowing to look for any signs of change.”The film was made in 2008. Since then, it's been shown all over the world, won awards and has been used as a training tool.“It’s as important today as it was when I made it,” Bitticks said. “It’s endless in terms of information, its timeless. All of us have aging parents, the new generation needs to know this."When asked about the warning signs, and what you should look for to spot a problem, Cirillo said, “Look for the signs. Bruises, welts, lacerations, is mom or dad taking care of themselves, are they clean or unwashed, are they having trouble sleeping, have they lost a bunch of weight, any sign of trauma.”He also says if you hire someone, carefully screen them and do a background check. Monitor your loved one's finances and watch their bank accounts. Make sure you draw up an estate plan. And he says start those conversations now.“Everything is about preparation. nobody wants to talk about aging until there’s a crisis situation and when there’s a crisis everybody reacts but in reality, we should be talking about all of these issues early on,” Cirillo said.Experts also advise, especially during this pandemic, if you can't be there, it's imperative that you have someone check in on your family as it's more important than ever to be involved. Even if it's from a distance.Bitticks also recommends that families capture their loved one's life story.
