Students are demanding change after the deadly Florida High School shooting.On Monday, a group of teens from Maryland held a lie-in near the White House to stand with the victims of last week's mass shooting.The group, called Teens for Gun Reform, held the lie-in at 12:15 p.m. between the White House and Lafayette Park. Demonstrators lied on the ground for three minutes to symbolize how long it took the suspected gunman to buy the AR 15 rifle used in the attack.Many students who survived the shooting are now speaking out against gun violence. They are calling for a nationwide student and teacher walkout on March 14 to demand tougher gun laws. There are also talks of an anti-gun violence demonstration in Washington, D.C. and other cities across the country on March 24."My message for the people in office is you're either with us or against us. TAMPA BAY, Fla. — About four million Kia and Hyundai vehicle owners are one step closer to receiving a piece of the nearly 0 million settlement over an engine defect linked to cars and SUVs spontaneously bursting into flames.The settlement deal, first announced last year, would cover reimbursement for past repairs and expenses, free repair or replacement of damaged engines, denied warranty coverage, and loss of vehicle value.ABC Action News I-team Investigator Jackie Callaway first exposed the cause behind these fires in the report “Up in Flames” in 2018.That’s also the year Tisha VanAllen’s 2011 Kia Optima caught fire as she was driving down a Mississippi highway.“The car started stuttering and I pulled over and when I did it was just engulfed in flames,” she said.VanAllen became trapped in the burning car.“I tried my passenger door, my driver's door, it would not budge,” she said.Panicking, she kicked at the door and window before a truck driver pulled over and wrestled the door open.“He kept yanking on the door handle until he finally got it to open up and he just grabbed me and yanked me out,” she said.The loss of her car devastated the finances of the single mother of four. SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. -- Dozens of people tested positive for the coronavirus and hundreds were quarantined after an outbreak in Suffolk County, New York, linked to a sweet 16 party, County Executive Steve Bellone said Tuesday.The party took place at the Miller Place Inn on Sept. 25, with a guest list of 81 people.The Miller Place Inn was fined ,000 for violating state executive orders and health laws, and ,000 for violating county rules.Several positive COVID-19 cases in the Sachem School District were reported to the county on Sept. 30, and during the course of their investigation, the county discovered that the cases were connected to the sweet 16 party.Following a contact tracing investigation, the county identified 37 positive cases connected to the party; 270 people were told to quarantine.It's the first time a businesses was fined by the Suffolk County Health Department over COVID-19-related violations.Bellone said that for the county, this qualifies as a super spreader event.“This was an egregious violation and should serve as a stark reminder of the consequences that exist for flouting COVID-19 protocols,” said Bellone. “These rules and regulations exist for a reason - to keep New Yorkers safe - and we all have an obligation to act responsibly.”This story was originally published by Corey Crockett at WPIX. 1348

Tesla on Thursday recalled about 123,000 Model S sedans, asking customers with cars built before April of 2016 to have their power steering bolts replaced.A Tesla spokesperson said the company has observed "excessive corrosion" of the part in some cold climates where a certain type of road salt is used.No injuries or accidents have been reported in connection with the issue, the spokesperson said.A Tesla spokesperson said that if the bolts fail, the driver should still be able to control the vehicle. The issue can make the car more difficult to steer at low speeds and to parallel park, and it should "not materially affect control at high speed."The company sent out emails to Model S owners who have cars included in the recall.The Model S has been lauded for its safety ratings, but news of this recall comes at a rough time for Tesla.Its stock price has plunged more than 25% over the past month.
