A Wisconsin woman who jumped in front of an oncoming train to save her mom is now feeling well enough to share her story. The incident first happened back in August.Katie Wenszell, 28, is a Milwaukee teacher. She, her mom and her sisters were on a girls trip to Atlanta, waiting for a train, when the unthinkable happened to her mother."All of a sudden, the guy came out of nowhere and just pushed her. I didn't have any time to grab her. She was literally in the air and hitting the tracks," Katie said. Katie remembers bits and pieces of the day, but says her sister told her she walked to the end of the platform and was trying to yell for her mom to get up."Then, I looked down to see the training coming and all I did was jump. She had her head and feet on the tracks? And I knew that if I didn't get her off, she was going to die no matter what. I decided it worked in the movie, let's lay her out flat, lay me down flat, and hopefully pray to god that it will work."Katie says she does not remember what happened after she jumped, that it "all becomes literally black."Although they don't know for certain what happened underneath the train, it appears Katie's plan worked.  Her mom, Susan says "she managed to get me between those two tracks. That train went over the top of me. I never got hit by that train."Susan did suffer a concussion and severe head injuries from the fall. The train did hit Katie, as it was coming to a stop.When asked about her injuries, Katie said she has "a reconstructed shoulder, smashed my face, so I have plates in my face. And I have amputated toes."She also believes the train dragged her by her necklace, causing serious injuries to her neck. She woke up in the hospital five days later with a tube down her throat."Literally the moment it got taken out, is my mom OK was the first thing that came out of my mouth. What did they tell you? They said yep, she's fine, she's here," Katie said. Katie says she was ecstatic to find out her mom was alive, although her mom was upset that Katie risked her life to save her. "She's 28, I'm 57. My goodness, I've had my life," Susan said. That life now includes helping Katie get better so she can walk on her own again. The amputated area is healing so well, Katie wanted to show it to us."When I first saw it, I was the only one who took it perfectly fine. After it started going down, I was like mom, look at the tiny alien foot, because it's really tiny," Katie said. As you can see, Katie has a really positive outlook and is working hard to walk again. She was supposed to be in China right now, teaching English and still hopes to go at some point.As for the stranger who pushed her mom, another passenger held him until authorities arrived.  The family has a Go Fund Me page to help with Katie's medical bills.  2870

Actress Sienna Miller says that her co-star in "21 Bridges," Chadwick Boseman, relinquished part of his salary to help cover their compensation disparity.Miller's revelation comes in the newest edition of Empire magazine, which pays tribute to the actor who died earlier this month amid a secret fight with colon cancer at the age of 43.Miller says that Boseman approached her about starring the 2019 police thriller, but the opportunity came after months of "working non-stop." Even though she wanted to work with Boseman, she said she was "hesitant to go back to work" because "her daughter was going back to school and it was an inconvenient time."As a result, Miller told the studio producing "21 Bridges" that she would only star in the film if she was compensated "the right way," even though she was asking for a figure that the studio would not pay her.However, Boseman — who was a producer on the film — said he would donate a portion of his salary to help Miller get the compensation she needed.“It was about the most astounding thing that I've experienced,” Miller told Empire. “That kind of thing just doesn't happen. He said, ‘You're getting paid what you deserve, and what you're worth.’ It's just unfathomable to imagine another man in that town behaving that graciously or respectfully. In the aftermath of this I've told other male actor friends of mine that story and they all go very very quiet and go home and probably have to sit and think about things for a while. After initially being deadlocked on a vote to certify election results, The Wayne County Board of Canvassers voted unanimously to certify election results Tuesday evening. The motion to hold another vote came following hours of public comments condemning Republican canvassers' decisions to vote against the certification.The board of canvassers vote initially tied 2 to 2 along party lines. But just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the board filed a motion and voted to certify the results under the stipulation that Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson does a comprehensive audit of the election in the county.President Trump also tweeting praise to canvassers who initially blocked the certification, saying "Wow! Michigan just refused to certify the election results! Having courage is a beautiful thing. The USA stands proud!"There has been a whirlwind of unproven allegations of fraud and a string of lawsuits since the election two weeks ago. The canvassers' initial vote came after many Detroit precincts were found to be out of balance.That means the number of votes are not in line with the number of voters. ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego Sheriff’s Department is looking for the people responsible for breaking into the Children's Nature Retreat in Alpine and setting several animals loose.The break-in happened between Saturday night and early morning hours of Sunday morning, according to Anges Barrelet, the CEO of the Children's Nature Retreat Foundation.The non-profit houses farm livestock, as well as exotic animals.Barrelet says the intruders didn’t steal anything but cut open two enclosures. There are more than a 130 animals in the roughly 20 acres property, and they set more than a dozen animals loose.Some of them were injured by cages on the way out, getting cuts and scrapes, but the staff was able to put them all back into their enclosures.None of the animals escaped the perimeter fencing."It's completely ridiculous, and it's awful,” Barrelet said. "They put those animals in danger."The enclosures have been temporarily patched up, but Barrelet says they had to close to the public for a few days until the fences can be properly repaired. She says it’s just not safe to have visitors at the park until the barriers can be fixed.The Children's Nature Retreat hopes to reopen next week. 1213
