CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- A frightening scene for any family to witness was captured on video just before Valentine’s Day outside an East Chula Vista gas station. A clip posted to Facebook shows a man screaming racial obscenities at a female customer while the woman he’s with calmly pumps gas into their car.The incident reportedly happened at the Shell gas station at the Village Marketplace in the Eastlake neighborhood of Chula Vista at around 4 p.m., according to the victim.In a Facebook video post, the victim wrote that the man had approached her car and began shouting vulgarities then returned to his car. “No there is nothing done prior to this on my part. No there was nothing wrong that I knew of. No, there was no history," the victim wrote in the Facebook video post."No, I've never seen this couple before. No, there were no words exchanged between us, no eye contact, he just began to spew hateful commentary when he saw me get out to pump," the victim said.Sensing that something may happen, the victim used her cellphone to record the encounter, and that's when the man approached her again.The video shows a man with face and arm tattoos jumping out of the passenger seat of a light colored Nissan Versa hatchback. He approaches the victim’s car while flashing both middle fingers and screaming, “F*** n*****s!”The man then walked up to the victim’s vehicle and spit on the windshield.10News is not identifying the victim for her own protection.According to the victim, the couple drove away after the woman finished pumping gas.“I am beyond grateful that he, for some reason, changed his mind and did not spit on me or put his hands on me,” the victim said.The woman called Chula Vista Police about five hours after the confrontation at the gas station, according to Chula Vista Police Department Captain Phil Collum. Officers took information from the woman and followed up with her Friday to gather more information and documentation, Collum said. They will evaluate the evidence to see if it amounts to a criminal offense. Collum said police do not know the identity of the man seen in the video. “This is highly unusual,” said Collum. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A woman narrowly avoided being hit by a falling tree branch on a busy Chula Vista street Wednesday. A large branch fell from the eucalyptus tree along Telegraph Canyon Road about 3 p.m., crashing through the passenger side window of a woman’s car. Had a passenger been in the seat, the person would have been impaled, crews on the scene estimated. The woman pulled into the bike lane to assess the damage. She was able to walk independently but paramedics took her to the hospital for an assessment. No other cars were damaged, officials said. A neighbor told 10News they have seen other branches fall from the same tree. No one has been injured by the other incidents. 706

(KGTV) -- A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after two cars collided on Interstate 805 in the South Bay, sending one car sliding down the freeway several hundred feet.According to Chula Vista police, the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on northbound I-805 near H Street in Chula Vista.A tow truck driver stopped to help and said the four people inside the overturned car were able to crawl out the wreckage and broken glass.The second car was able to pull over down the freeway, with minor damage.One of the flipped cars' passengers was transported to the hospital. The other three, as well as the other driver, was treated on scene for minor injuries.California Highway Patrol is investigating and believes alcohol may have been a factor. 782

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) — Three children are recovering Sunday morning after they were struck by a car in the Otay Ranch neighborhood of Montecito Village. The crash happened Saturday just before 5 p.m. on Santa Victoria Avenue, about a block east of Muroaka Elementary School. According to Chula Vista Police, the pedestrians were crossing the street when they were struck by a silver 2018 Toyota Corolla. The children were not in a marked crosswalk.The two younger children were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries, said CVPD officer Justin Zualet. Witnesses at the scene described them in good condition.The 15-year old female was transported in critical but stable condition with a head injury, lacerations, and abrasions.Zualet said all are expected to survive.The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police at the scene said the driver, a male in his 50s, told officers he was using his cell phone at the time of the crash. No further details were given at this time.Drugs and alcohol do not appear factors in the collision, Zualet said. The incident remains under investigation. 1154
