SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - A local woman says her heart stopped when she saw what someone nearly sat on at a popular trail in Santee.Angie Haake was just beginning her usual dog walk last Thursday morning near the entrance of Walker Preserve Trail, when she noticed two upset women on the phone talking to deputies.  Haake asked them what was going on and they showed her a razor blade on the bench."I was shocked when it saw it. Obviously whoever put it there wanted someone to sit down and slice the back of their thighs. It's cruel and hateful," said Haake.The discovery was not the first.  Another trail goer tells 10news about three weeks ago, she found a similar blade near another bench.  In November 2016, 10news spoke with a mother at Mast Park in Santee, who found dozens of tacks placed sharp-side up underneath leaves.10news reached out to deputies to find out how many reports of similar cases there have been on the trail, but have yet to hear back. 983

SANTA ANA (CNS) - A man who drove drunk and veered into oncoming traffic while making a turn, slamming head-on into a minivan and killing a mother of three in Lake Forest, was convicted today of second-degree murder.William Joseph Carroll, 51, of Mission Viejo, had a blood-alcohol level of about 0.23 -- nearly three times the legal limit -- when his Ford F- 250 pickup truck slammed into a Toyota Sienna minivan driven by 36-year-old Ana Martinez about 11:40 p.m. May 7, 2013, Deputy District Attorney Daniel Feldman told jurors during the trial.Martinez, who was driving to work at the time, was "crushed to death" in the crash, Feldman said.The prosecutor said Carroll was making a left turn from El Toro Road to Santa Margarita Parkway in Lake Forest when he veered into oncoming traffic.A witness told investigators that Carroll ran a red light, he said. Witnesses "describe Mr. Carroll's truck like a train out of nowhere," Feldman said, adding that the force of the collision was like "100 mph" when combining the speeds of both vehicles.Carroll's attorney, Sara Ross, told jurors it was " a case of government overreach." Ross acknowledged that Carroll was "responsible for the killing of Ana Martinez, but he's not guilty of murder."Both drivers attempted to avoid each other, she said, adding that the intersection is "a bit confusing." "It's a very confusing road and you're going to need that context to determine whether this was a murder," Ross told jurors.Feldman said Carroll was charged with second-degree murder rather than vehicular manslaughter because when he was convicted of DUI on Sept. 11, 2008, he was warned he would be charged with murder in the event of involvement in a DUI-related death.Carroll faces 15 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 19. 1797

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan told protesters occupying several city blocks they are in no danger of being invaded by the federal government despite comments from President Donald Trump saying he is ready to “take back” the city.The protesters, who have seized control of Seattle’s East Precinct police station, are pushing the city to make significant reforms to policing. After days of unrest, at times becoming violent, the protests have largely not been violent since protesters have declared the area an “autonomous zone.”The protesters are among those calling for police reforms in the wake of George Floyd's death. While Durkan and city officials in Seattle are hopeful for a peaceful resolution with the demonstrators, Trump tweeted that if Durkan doesn’t regain control of the city, he would.“Radical Left Governor @JayInslee and the Mayor of Seattle are being taunted and played at a level that our great Country has never seen before,” Trump tweeted. “Take back your city NOW. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Airbnb announced Thursday that it’s banning all parties and events at the listings on its website to comply with limits on gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.The San Francisco-based company says the party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb and it will remain in effect indefinitely until further notice.Additionally, Airbnb says the occupancy at its listings will be capped at 16 people. Though, the company says it’s considering a potential exception process for specialty and traditional hospitality venues, like boutique hotels.“We also understand that 16 is not a magic number, and issues can occur with groups of any size,” wrote the company. “To be clear, we are not sanctioning smaller gatherings with this policy and all community members are expected to comply with local health restrictions on gatherings. We are capping guests at 16 in these large properties as one step amongst several, all designed to mitigate any efforts to misuse an Airbnb for a party.”Airbnb says guests will be informed about its party rules and told that they may be “legally pursued” by the company if they violate the policy.Unauthorized parties have actually always been prohibited at Airbnb listings and the company says 73% of its listings already ban them in their house rules.Over the last year or two, Airbnb has begun imposing stricter limits, starting with a global ban on “party houses,” or listings that create persistent neighborhood nuisance. And when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, a new policy was introduced that required all users to adhere to local coronavirus mandates.“However, in many large jurisdictions, public health mandates on gatherings have changed – and in some places swung back and forth in response to the changing rates of COVID cases – as have regulations on bars, clubs and pubs,” wrote Airbnb. “Some have chosen to take bar and club behavior to homes, sometimes rented through our platform. We think such conduct is incredibly irresponsible – we do not want that type of business, and anyone engaged in or allowing that behavior does not belong on our platform.”Based on these developments, the company says instituting a global ban on parties and events is in the best interest of public health. 2265

SEATTLE (AP) — Starbucks says it will offer delivery in most of the U.S. by early next year.The Seattle coffee company launched delivery last fall in Miami with its partner, Uber Eats. It has since expanded to 10 additional U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.Starbucks says Uber Eats will remain its preferred provider as it rolls out delivery more widely.Customers in most areas where Starbucks and Uber Eats operate will be able to order drinks and other menu items.
