With Washington a little more than 24 hours away from a partial government shutdown, the House of Representatives on Thursday passed a spending bill that includes an additional billion for President Donald Trump's long-promised border wall. The vote was 217-185.The billion is in line with what the President has requested of Congress, but passage of the measure doesn't appear to have moved Washington any closer to averting a shutdown at the end of the week.That's because the bill next heads to the Senate, where it is expected to be dead on arrival due to opposition over the border wall money.Democrats have already made clear they will not support billion for the wall, and any spending measure would need bipartisan support to pass in the Senate.The question now is whether a partial shutdown can still be averted. If the deadline is not extended, those agencies will shutter just days before Christmas.Just a day ago, lawmakers had appeared on track to stave off a shutdown after the Senate passed its stopgap funding bill with top congressional Republicans signaling that they expected the President to sign the measure.But the outlook changed drastically on Thursday as Trump ratcheted up his rhetoric and suggested again that he is not willing to accept anything less than his billion demand.House GOP leaders had emerged from a meeting with the President at the White House earlier in the day saying that Trump had told them he would not accept the stopgap measure passed by the Senate, which did not include the border wall funding he wanted.That news threw many lawmakers into a tailspin as confusion and uncertainty over what would happen next dominated the day on Capitol Hill.Rep. Mark Meadows, the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, told CNN earlier in the day on Thursday that state of play on the spending bill is "very fluid right now."The bill the House took up on Thursday includes .81 billion in disaster funds through the rest of the fiscal year in the aftermath of widespread wildfires and Hurricanes Michael and Florence in addition to billion in new money for the border wall for the rest of the fiscal year but to remain available until September 30, 2023.It is widely expected that the measure will be unable to pass in the Senate, however, given its allocation for border wall funding.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's proposal that passed the Senate the day before had the backing of the top congressional Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, and top congressional Republicans had indicated on Wednesday they were optimistic that the President would sign the measure.Pelosi, however, argued during a press conference on Thursday that the situation was descending into a "meltdown" among Republicans. But in terms of wall funding, that's a non-starter."A House GOP conference meeting earlier in the day was a "strong rebuke" against the short-term spending bill passed by the Senate, according to North Carolina Republican Rep. Mark Walker. "There wasn't any ambiguity in the room today," Walker told CNN."We've got to stay here and get this job done and get border security passed," Walker said. "The Senate's voice vote on the CR was strongly rejected by the conference this morning."The North Carolina Republican said one member who hadn't spoken in the conference in eight years stood up to speak Thursday and that Rep. Virginia Foxx's husband called her from back home to say you've got to get the wall done. "It wasn't just one group or one caucus; It was across the board," Walker said."There's a lot of frustration," said Rep. Just like Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia from the hit show The Golden Girls, Bregman and Young live together, all while experiencing life in their golden years. As of three months ago, Bregman and Young was perfect strangers. Bregman had recently lost a partner, and Young’s apartment building was being torn down.“So then I thought, well, I’ll go back to what I was doing in college when I was a young, starving actress, and thought well, I’ll get a roommate!” Young says. For Bregman, it was her first time ever pursuing a roommate. But it made perfect sense. Not only did a roommate help financially and emotionally, it also helped with safety, says Bregman. (KGTV) - A Valley Center mom is grateful her daughter is alive, days after discovering her two-year-old girl floating in the back yard pool."It's every mother's worst nightmare and the images plays in my mind a lot," said Emily Friske.That nightmare began with a very ordinary afternoon on Monday, inside a Valley Center home. Friske finished feeding her baby and two-year-old daughter Addie. Friske thought she heard Addie follow her husband into the bedroom. Her husband thought Addie was with Friske in the living room. Minutes later, Friske followed her crawling infant to the back door. "The door was partially open and Addie's clothes were lying on the ground," said Friske.Soon after, she was rushing into the back yard. Her heart stopped. Addie was in the pool."She was blue, not moving, and floating on her side in the shallow end," said Friske.She had no pulse and wasn't breathing. A frantic Friske, a former EMT, and her husband both performed CPR for a total of about 11 minutes before an ambulance arrived."My husband kept yelling, 'Adelaide, Adelaide, Adelaide' with every compression. He was yelling, 'Stay with us!'" said Friske.It wasn't until Addie was in the ambulance - about 30 minutes after she was discovered - that she started breathing again. In the ICU, doctors told the couple that brain damage was likely, possibly severe. On Tuesday, they took Addie off the ventilator and waited. "She reached out for her blanket and said, 'Addie blanket.' The doctors and I looked at each other, and we clapped and cried," said Friske.After a battery of encouraging tests, Friske is hopeful Addie will make a full recovery. Friske is sharing Addie's story for other families, many staying at home during the hot summer months. She urges them to learn CPR and learn from her."My message to parents is to be as vigilant as you can. It can happen in an instant," said Friske.Friske says Addie could go home Saturday. She remains weak and will need physical therapy and some speech therapy. A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help the family with expenses. 2104
