BEIJING, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met with visiting Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivailo Kalfin here Monday. The two sides vowed to step up bilateral relations.     Xi highlighted growth of bilateral relations in recent years, saying the two nations have witnessed a boom of cooperation in such fields as politics, economy, culture, science and technology.     China values the traditional friendship with Bulgaria, Xi said, citing the fact that Bulgaria was the second country to recognize the People's Republic of China in 1949. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping (R Front) meets with visiting Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin (L Front) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China, March 23, 2009    China is willing to join hands with Bulgaria to step up bilateral relations in an effort to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Sino-Bulgarian diplomatic relationship, Xi noted.     Echoing Xi's views on bilateral relations, Kalfin said Bulgaria and China share similar views on many international issues, promising his country will continue to adhere to the one-China policy.     Bulgaria would work closer with China to promote bilateral relations to a higher level, Kalfin said.     Kalfin is on an official visit to China from March 21-25. Besides Beijing, he will also pay a visit to China's economic powerhouse Shanghai.

WUHAN, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari arrived here Friday evening, kicking off his second China visit at the invitation of the Chinese government.     During his stay at this capital city of central China's Hubei Province, Zardari was expected to pursue Sino-Pakistani cooperation in agriculture and water conservancy. He will also meet with the local governor.     On behalf of the Chinese government, State Councilor Dai Bingguo will meet with Zardari here.     Zardari will visit the Three Gorges Project in Yichang city to study its management and technology.     Zardari was scheduled to leave Hubei for Shanghai, China's financial hub, on Sunday to continue his China tour. He was particularly interested in finance, banking, large-scale construction and Shanghai's urban development, according to the Ambassador of Pakistan to China.     China believed the visit would consolidate the two countries' all-weather friendship and deepen all-round cooperation, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said earlier.     Zardari paid his first state visit to China as guest of President Hu Jintao in October last year.

SEOUL, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said here Monday that the strategic and cooperative partnership between China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) has witnessed rapid growth thanks to concerted efforts made by both.     Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting ROK President Lee Myung Bak.     Li first congratulated the successful meeting between Lee and Chinese President Hu Jintao amidst the G20 financial summit in London. The two countries, key economic partners to the other, also carry out cooperation in cultural, educational and scientific areas.     "We also strengthen communication and coordination on major global and regional issues, including China-Japan-ROK cooperation, climate change and international financial cooperation, thus ushering the China-ROK strategic and cooperative partnership in a new phase," Li said.     "The development of relations with ROK takes an important position in China's foreign policy for neighboring countries," he added.     To further develop such ties, Li suggested both nations maintain high-level exchanges for increasing mutual trust in political area. "Besides governmental contacts, the exchanges between parliaments and political parties should also be strengthened. And the exchanges among political parties should form a mechanism," he said.     Li also proposed to make joint efforts for combating the spreading financial crisis and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation. "We should adopt effective measures to ensure the steady growth of economic cooperation, increase cooperation in such key areas as energy, telecommunication, finance, logistic and environmental protection, and initiated negotiations of free-trade agreement at an early date," he said.     He also pledged to expand people-to-people contacts, in particular the communication among young people, so as to lay a solid foundation for bilateral ties. "Exchanges of academic and media circles could also be enhanced," he said.     On multi-lateral cooperation, Li suggested both keep close communication and coordination in preventing trade protectionism, reforming international financial system and strengthening global and regional cooperation on financial affairs.     Li expressed appreciation for ROK's adherence to one-China policy. Both agreed to actively advance regional cooperation for rejuvenating Asia. The two sides reached consensus that the foundation of the bilateral friendship depends on the peoples of the two countries and the future on the young generation.     Currently, there are more than 1 million South Korean learning Chinese, he said.     "We are willing to work with China for pushing forward cooperation in East Asia," he added.     Earlier on Monday, Li visited the Ewha Womans University, the largest women university in the world.     Li spoke highly of the efforts made by the university to train a contingent of female talents, who play active part in political, economic and cultural fields in South Korea. He urged both sides to further boost cultural and educational exchanges.     Li attended the Chinese curricular of Ewha. He encouraged the young students to work hard as the envoys for boosting bilateral exchanges.     In the afternoon, Li visited the Seoul Chinese Cultural Center, the first government-sponsored Chinese cultural facility in Asia.     ROK is the last leg of Li's four-nation tour which has already taken him to Australia, Myanmar and Japan.

  

BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela President Hugo Chavez concluded his working visit to China and left Beijing on Thursday night.     During his two-day stay, Chavez met with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Vice President Xi Jinping respectively, exchanging views on enhancing the bilateral strategic partnership.     Chavez also visited the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) earlier on Thursday, the highest training institution for CPC officials. Addressing about 100 Chinese officials, he said the two countries witnessed great progress in their cooperation in economy, science and technology areas.
