CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Laurence and Cherryl Lector's two small children were eager to show off their costumes and hit up their neighborhood for sweets. But the couple didn't want to abandon their home on Baywood Circle in Chula Vista and disappoint the several trick-or-treaters likely to stop by for confectionery.So, the couple filled a large candy bowl hoping their security camera -- fixed visibly in their porch -- would keep visitors honest.  The family then set off on their haunts.The Lectors phones were buzzing with video alerts showing little ghosts and ghouls digging through the self-serve candy bowl and respecting the Halloween honor system.Then they received a video showing an esurient group of older kids, and one small girl, emptying out the dish into their bags."I was devastated someone could just get all the candy and ruin the night [for other trick-or-treaters]," said Laurence Lector.One of the kids noticed the camera and even pointed it out to someone else in the group, but the kids continued to snatch all of the treats until every sweet was gone."We were disappointed that those that came afterward came to an empty bowl," Cherryl Castro-Lector told said.About an hour later, they received a video from their camera that warmed their hearts.The video shows a girl and boy investigating the empty bowl.  They must've known that the night wasn't over for other little trick-or-treaters. So, the group took turns emptying their own their treats into the bowl, starting with their mom."I got a little teary eyed.  Gosh, I hope my kids are like that someday," Castro-Lector said. CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. – A black bear is thanking its lucky stars that a Wisconsin family was in the right place at the right time.After a day of fishing on Sunday, Tricia Hurt told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that she, her husband and their son were returning to a dock on Marsh-Miller Lake when they spotted something strange in the water.As the family approached, they realized it was a young bear that was struggling to swim because it had a cheese ball container stuck around its head.They felt compelled to help free the bear from the tub, worrying that if they didn’t, it wouldn’t be able to make it back to short safely.So, Tricia says her son Brady maneuvered their boat while her husband leaned into the water to tug on the container. It took multiple passes, but they eventually managed to free the animal from the plastic. Tricia says the bear then swam back to shore.The family believes that if they had not helped the bear, it may have not made it to shore, because it was breathing heavily and the container had filled with water.Tricia documented their rescue efforts on video and posted it online. As of Tuesday morning, her Facebook post has been shared more than 18,000 times.The family says the bear had actually been spotted several times over the past few days and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources had been looking for it, but without any luck. 1389

(KGTV) -- A Chula Vista woman's holiday decorations vanished from her lawn Thursday morning — but she's determined not to let "the Grinch" steal her Christmas spirit.It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Wendy Claproth's home in East Chula Vista. Since her husband's passing ten years ago, Claproth says she did not have the spirit to spread Christmas cheer outside. But this year, she finally got the courage to give it a shot.On her front lawn, she put up a large blowup Christmas tree snowman, hung lights along the roof, set up candy canes, wrapped her mailbox, and even created a Christmas tree with a set of lights. Her house screamed "festive." But on Thursday morning, she noticed that her brand new Christmas tree snowman inflatable was gone."Yes, you get mad, but more than anything, you get disappointed," Claproth said.It wasn't the wind, and it definitely was not an accident. Thieves had ripped the blowup right from her lawn, leaving only the stakes."It was kind of angled towards the corner all by itself over there, so I guess it was an easy prey," Claproth sighed.She wrote about the incident in her neighborhood app and found that she was not the only victim. Many others chimed in, saying the Grinch stole their Christmas decorations as well.Chula Vista Police says while there are not too many official reports of stolen decorations, these thefts, unfortunately, are common during the holiday season. But Claproth is not letting the thieves take away her holiday spirit."I ordered myself another one because they are not going to steal my Christmas cheer!" Claproth said.
