Bianco said he saw someone in their yard in the middle of the night  watching the house.Since the threats, he's added security to his home and filed police reports.He realized it was all too much, "My life and those of my family are more important than any job."Bianco addressed the packed church at Sunday night's mass, "when hate rages like a fire, love rains down, and I feel it from so many of you in this room."Bianco told 10News he believes there is more good in the world than bad, explaining he's received encouraging notes from people all over the world.After his speech, the church erupted, "It made me so happy that everybody stood there and clapped for the longest ovation I've ever heard in a church in my life. Letting him know that we love you, we care about you and you're going to be missed," Parishioner Berena Pe?a said.She attended the church a decade prior and stopped coming because she didn't feel welcome as a lesbian. Her friend convinced her to try again two years ago. She said she could feel the difference, and it woke her up.Bianco said this is not the end, and he will keep fighting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- County health officials have identified the woman who may have come into contact with a bat that tested positive for rabies at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.According to the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, one person, and possible others, were exposed to rabies on September 6.The county says a bat was seen flying around a previously unidentified woman around 11:30 a.m. at the Mombasa Cooker at Nairobi Village.The bat was later collected and submitted to health officials for testing. It was later determined that the bat was infected with rabies.The agency says the bat wasn’t part of the park’s collection of animals."Any other visitors who may have come in direct contact with a bat at the location and time described below should contact County Health and Human Services," the agency said. 847

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City Council leaders have approved a draft agreement to sell the Mission Valley stadium site to San Diego State University.Leaders unanimously approved an agreement to move forward with a Purchase and Sale Agreement (PSA) between the city and SDSU to sell the land to the university for .2 million.The agreement paves the way for the city to meet for two hearings to finalize the PSA on June 9 and June 23. After the hearings, a 30-day referendum period is legally required before Mayor Kevin Faulconer can sign the PSA and escrow can be initiated. SDSU expects to take ownership of the property in late July 2020, according to the city."Both parties wanted to get this done right, and the time and thoughtfulness put into this agreement have created a final product San Diegans can be proud of," Mayor Faulconer said. "This agreement is fair and equitable, and I want to thank Council President Gomez, City Attorney Elliott and SDSU for their commitment."The agreement is the product of 18 months of negotiating following the passage of Measure G in November 2018. The voter-approved measure calls for the expansion of SDSU, a new stadium, 80 acres of park and open space, and 4,600 market-rate and affordable housing units."We have reached a pivotal milestone moment. SDSU Mission Valley will be a true revitalization of public land in all aspects of the plan," SDSU President Adela de la Torre said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - California police officers who leave their departments to join the San Diego Police can now get a ,000 cash bonus.The San Diego City Council unanimously approved the program Tuesday to help SDPD recruit new officers. The department has struggled to recruit and retain officers due to the city’s high cost of living and a pay scale that’s lower than competing police departments. A San Diego Police officer earns a starting salary of ,000 a year. Late last year, the City Council approved a series of salary increases of up to 25 percent through 2020. The San Diego Police Department currently has about 1,860 officers, which is about 180 short of its staffing goal. Chief David Nisleit said Tuesday that SDPD recently lost two officers to Chula Vista, whose entry level officers earn about ,000 a year. “What I’m looking for is to hire experienced law enforcement officers from other areas,” he said. "To make us competitive we had to offer a signing bonus to have them come over.”A lateral police officer - one moving from another department - would earn ,000 upon hire, then another ,000 after training, and the final ,000 after one year of continuous employment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Beaches in San Diego are expected to be packed for the Fourth of July weekend as other nearby counties shut down their beaches over coronavirus concerns.Local law enforcement agencies are prepared for the influx in beachgoers, but many are hoping and wondering if people will follow San Diego County’s facial covering and social distancing requirements.On Friday, ABC 10News crews observed visitors at Mission Beach keeping their distance from each other and most of them wearing facial coverings.Many visitors came to the beach early to secure spots for what will likely be a busy weekend.The Cotus family, visiting San Diego from Arizona, heard about Gov. Gavin Newsom closing beaches where coronavirus numbers are rising. But the family took the chance that San Diego beaches would stay open.“We figured this morning we got the kids up. OK, let’s take a chance; either we can get to the beach or we can’t. If not, there’s a pool at the hotel,” Edward Cotus said.Law enforcement agencies said they will be out this weekend reminding people about the rules. However, they say it will be up to the public to follow them.The Cotus family said they understand why people don’t like wearing the face coverings, but they believe it’s everyone’s responsibility to do their part in controlling the spread of this virus.“We all have to be responsible and just try to really implement social distancing on our own.
