EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Dozens of dogs and cats landed in El Cajon today, after a flight from Louisiana to Gillespie Field. In July, rescue partners at Acadiana Animal Aid in Lafayette, LA helped rescue animals following floods in the area. This month, they've teamed up with the Wings of Rescue to help overcrowded shelters.  The 75 to 90 animals will go to The Rescued Dog, Labradors and Friends Rescue, San Diego Humane Society, and the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.  512

Each day since November 1, a group called Warriors Journey Home shows up at Veterans Memorial Park in Green, Ohio, offers a brief prayer and then turns their attention to a metal tree that measures less than five feet tall.They quietly hang 22 dog tags on the Witness Tree to represent the 22 veterans who die from suicide each day in the U.S. The final 22 tags will be placed on the tree on Veterans Day."We're going to have 242 dog tags on this tree. Those are 242 lives that didn't have to end this way and we can do something about it," said John Schluep, an Army veteran who runs the local chapter of Warriors Journey Home.Keith Van Buskirk, a veteran of the Marine Corps Reserve, said seeing all of the dog tags is emotional for him."It definitely provokes an emotional response in me. It makes me wish I could shake the hand or hug every one of those war fighters on that tree," Van Buskirk said.Both Schluep and Van Buskirk said they knew veterans who committed suicide."I was called yesterday about a young man who had taken his life, a Marine veteran from Iraq," Schluep said.The non-profit has a mission to provide spiritual healing and soul repair from the invisible wounds for veterans, families and the community.Schluep said there are many reasons for suicides among veterans, including a struggle to find wellness when adjusting from military culture back to civilian life."Loneliness, abandonment, isolation, lack of fitting into that community," Schluep said.Those in the community who support Warriors Journey Home are known as "strong hearts." Their role is considered crucial because they help share some of the burdens that veterans face."Part of that is opening our hearts to listen, to share that responsibility. That's what I want people to think about. We can do a better job," Schluep told WEWS.The group urges veterans, who may be struggling, to reach out to their organization, based in Cuyahoga Falls, by calling 330-715-5683 or contacting Veterans Affairs.Van Buskirk stressed many of us can do our part by doing something simple to help veterans."If you know somebody that served in the military, it's just an awareness thing about picking up the phone and calling to check in on them," he said.The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, seven days a week. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A Black Indianapolis physician died on Sunday with COVID-19 after she complained of racist treatment from IU Health North Hospital, according to her family. In a now-viral video, Dr. Susan Moore recorded her every step when seeking treatment after contracting COVID-19 on Nov. 29. Moore claimed she had to beg for CT scans and a drug that could significantly reduce her recovery time called remdesivir. "Why do I have to prove that there’s something wrong with me in order for my pain to be treated," Moore wrote on her Facebook post. After receiving two transfusions of remdesivir, Dr. Moore asked for a third because she was in so much pain. But, the white doctor on her case denied her request. Moore said the doctor claimed he didn't feel "comfortable" giving her any more narcotics. The doctor even tried to send her home after she complained of excruciating neck pain."I was crushed. He made me feel like I was a drug addict, and he knew I was a physician," Dr. Moore said in a Facebook video posted on Dec. 4 from her hospital bed. "I don't take narcotics."After speaking with a patient advocate, Moore said she asked to be moved to another hospital. "If they're not going to treat me here properly, send me to another hospital," she claimed. "Next thing I know, I'm getting a stat CT of my neck with and without contrast."The CT showed that Moore's pain was coming from new pulmonary infiltrates in her lungs and pleural effusion, according to Moore. The hospital staff said they would then treat Moore's pain. "I put forward and I maintain if I was white I wouldn't have to go through that," Moore stated. "And that man never came back and apologized."According to Moore, she continued to wait for hours to get the pain medicine that IU North said they would give her. When she complained to nurses, they fired back, allegedly claiming they "have more patients than you, you know?""This is how Black people get killed. When you send them home and they don't know how to fight for themselves," Moore said toward the end of the video. "Being Black up in here, this is what happens."After talking further with IU Healthcare's chief medical officer, Moore updated that she received much better treatment. She was still sent home, but less than 12 hours later, she was back in the hospital. This time, she went to St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel, where she said, "I am getting very compassionate care. They are offering me pain medicine.""Those people were trying to kill me. Clearly, everyone has to agree they discharge me way too soon," Moore wrote. The 54-year-old's seventh and final update said, "On (BiPAP) being transferred to ICU."Moore leaves her parents, both suffering from dementia, and her 19-year-old son, Henry Muhammed. After graduating from Carmel High School last year, Muhammed enrolled at Indiana University at Bloomington. But, after his grandparents and mother fell ill, he had to put his schooling aside to aide them. His former high school coach, Rashad Elby, wrote this about Muhammed:"For those of you not familiar with Henry and his struggles, he is a young man whose life to date is best summed as a story of obstacles, perseverance, and triumph. Dozens of goats invaded a suburb of Boise, Idaho, on Friday after walking off the job.The goats are workers for a rent-a-goat business called -- what else -- We Rent Goats that hires the herd out as an eco-friendly way to clear weeds.The goats were munching at an Ada County Highway District retention pond when they broke through a fence and escaped, briefly overtaking a street in the West Valley area of Boise around 7 a.m., CNN affiliate KBOI reported.Their arrival created a social media sensation, with goat-themed puns invading Twitter. The Columbus Dispatch, for instance, tweeted, "This looks like a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad situation." #Boise was still trending as of Friday afternoon.Boise resident Kyle Bryant told CNN he went to see the goats after his granddaughter told him what was happening."It was was the best thing I have seen since we moved to Boise three years ago," Bryant said.
