FAIRFIELD, Calif. – Police officers in Northern California stepped up to help some children cool off on a hot summer day.The Fairfield Police Department says some of its officers were responding to an area apartment complex when they noticed several kids playing outside in the heat.Unfortunately, police say the youngsters weren’t able to enjoy the community’s pool because of COVID-19 restrictions.Seeing this was no way to spend a hot summer afternoon, police say they came up with a plan to use their own money to purchase dozens of water guns and buckets of water balloons for the kids.When police returned, a water fight began, and the officers got in on the fun.“The ensuing water fight left a lot of soaked uniforms and plenty of smiling faces,” wrote police.The department posted video and photos of the interaction on social media, saying that their community is stronger together.“Transparency and trust in our community with regards to how we protect and serve you is our top priority – we understand that the more we are able to open our doors to you on all levels, the more we can connect, communicate, and work together,” wrote the department. 1166

(KGTV) -- The San Diego Children's Discovery Museum in Escondido has been quiet since mid-March, when they had to close their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic."It's been hard, and in the beginning, it was very eerie," said museum Executive Director Wendy Taylor.Normally, the museum plays host to a few hundred visitors every day, and on a busy day, that number may reach as high as 500 guests.However, for the last four months, the museum has been nothing more than the sound of silence. In fact, over the last month, when other museums were allowed to reopen their doors, the Children's Discovery Museum did not."We don't really fall into the traditional museum category in terms of the reopening. Kids’ museums are specifically called out in the state guidelines as not being a traditional museum. So, in the guidelines for museums, it specifically calls out that interactive areas should remain closed,” Taylor said.Taylor told ABC 10News she's very proud of the way the museum has adjusted during these uncertain times. They've had to become more creative in all their activities, from camps to storytelling, and everything has gone online."Families really needed some support. They needed something regular and normal, that their kids could see and engage in,” said Taylor.Storytime has been very popular with the children, as the museum receives viewers from all over the world. The numbers have been so impressive, as they reach thousands of views per story."Typically, every story time reaches thousands of people during the course of the 24 hours that it is up,” Taylor said.The museum also had a virtual art contest where a winner was announced on Facebook Live. According to Escondido Police, the attack happened on Maywood Street and Washington Avenue around 10:17 p.m. on February 12. Police say it appears three teenagers walking in the area were confronted with a machete-wielding man. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - The driver of a Ford Mustang was killed when he reportedly crashed into three separate vehicles at a high speed on Interstate 15 in Escondido this morning, an officer said.A 25-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2007 Ford Mustang around 6:20 a.m., heading south on I-15 just before state Route 78 when he approached stopped traffic and sideswiped a 2018 Ford Edge in the No. 2 lane of the freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Smale.After the first crash, the Mustang struck a Ford F-450 two-axle truck stopped in the No. 1 lane, then another Ford F-450 in the No. 2 lane.The Mustang driver, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, suffered major injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Smale said.Drugs and alcohol were not suspected to be factors in the crash.Lanes of southbound I-15 were blocked in the area for about two hours after the crash while investigators and emergency personnel worked, Smale said.All lanes were re-opened shortly before 9 a.m. 1042

FALLBROOK (CNS) - A 14-year-old Fallbrook High School student was arrested today for allegedly making an online threat to carry out a shooting at the northern San Diego County campus, authorities reported.The teen was taken into custody early Wednesday afternoon in connection with the menacing social media post, which came to light Monday evening and included a photograph of a gun, according to sheriff's officials.``No weapons were found at the juvenile's residence, and it is believed the suspect had no intention of actually following through with a shooting,'' Sgt. Patrick Yates said.The threat prompted a heightened law enforcement presence at and around the South Stage Coach Lane school Wednesday morning and afternoon, Yates said.The suspect's name was withheld.``It is the policy of the Sheriff's Department not to release identifying information about juvenile arrestees,'' the sergeant said. 924
