CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A driver was detained late Tuesday evening after military officials said he tried to enter Naval Base Coronado property without authorization.The incident occurred at around 10:15 p.m. at the Stockdale Boulevard gate at Naval Air Station North Island, near Third Street and Alameda Boulevard.Kevin Dixon, with Naval Base Coronado Public Affairs, said a vehicle tried to enter the base but was stopped by barriers.Dixon confirmed the driver was detained, but no other information on the incident was released.The investigation forced the closure of the gate for several hours.There were no reported injuries to any military personnel. 668

Colleges are trying to figure out how students can safely get back to school, as more schools are choosing to go online only for the fall.For colleges that will have students on-campus, a big question is how testing could work. This week, Maryland's state universities are some of the latest to say they will test students if they can't prove they had a negative test within 14 days of arriving on-campusResearchers from Yale, Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital have a model of what they say needs to happen for campuses to reopen.It includes testing students every two days along with strict social distancing measures“There are still schools out there who think they can get by with symptom-based monitoring,” said David Paltiel of Yale Public Health. “That is waiting until a student develops symptoms before springing into action. We have run simulations and scenarios over and over again. We have yet to find a single one where that is good enough.”Experts believe screening frequency is more important than test accuracy. But they say daily testing could lead to false positives. They think testing every two days will cost 0 per student per semester.“Any school that cannot see how it's going to reasonably implement a program of frequent screening alongside a program of social distancing really has to ask itself if it has any business reopening,” Paltiel said.Vassar College President Elizabeth Bradley looked at how the model would work for them. CLEARWATER, Fla. — The State Attorney's Office for Florida's Sixth Judicial District has reviewed the controversial 'stand your ground' case into the death of Markeis McGlockton and has decided to file a manslaughter charge.An arrest warrant was issued on Monday morning and Pinellas County detectives arrested Michael Drejka. He is being booked into the Pinellas County Jail and bond has been set at 0,000.McGlockton, 28, was shot and killed on July 19 by Drejka, 47, outside of a convenience store in Clearwater, Florida. CLAREMORE, Okla. -- Sequoyah High School students were not afraid to speak out after they said school officials told them they had to remove American flags mounted on their vehicles.On Thursday, a student showed up to the school, located about 40 minutes northwest of Tulsa, with a flag mounted on his car. “As soon as we got out of our cars in the parking lot they were already on us trying to get them down," student Kennith Hoover said. “The American flag symbolizes no racism and it's just strictly for America's freedom," student Jake Storts said. It's a symbol of patriotism, freedom and history. “I think it’s a fight that they picked that they will never win," local business owner Larry Banzet said. “The flag was in great shape, it was mounted properly," Hoover said. "It looked perfect. There was no kind of disrespect about it and they told him to take it down.” Friday, a group of students decided to stand with their friend. “You can’t tell a kid to take the flag down," Hoover said. "We disagree with that so that’s how it started.” “We’re not allowed to fly them because he can’t allow the Islamic or the KKK flag then he can’t allow the American flag," Storts said. Hoover says the school's reasoning change more than once. “Yesterday they said it was a distraction to drivers and students," he said. (KGTV) -- The owner of The Coronado Flower Lady, a popular flower stand along Orange Avenue, is trying to rebuild after a suspected drunk driver destroyed her business. Coronado police say 22-year-old Elias Atayee is being charged with felony DUI after crashing his car into the stand. They say Atayee also had a female passenger inside his car. RELATED: Driver slams into Coronado pole, picnic tables“The fact that there are people drinking and driving, going 90-100 miles per hour, I have my kids out here with me all the time at work," owner Shanel Albert said. "There are tons of kids out here and people. If one of my girls would have been here during the day and that happened, they would have been dead. And that scares me.” Thanks to the City of Coronado, Albert will be back selling her flowers on a table in the same spot until she can permanently rebuild her stand. A GoFundMe has been set up to help with costs and Albert says she hopes people will choose to place their orders through her since her business is still operational.   1104
