RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Three Southern California women have been arrested on suspicion of stealing more than million in federal student financial aid through Fullerton College.Federal prosecutors said Wednesday that the trio enrolled hundreds of mostly non-existent students, successfully applied for grants and loans and then pocketed the money.Officials said at least two of the more than 200 names used to apply for loans were inmates in state prisons. The Press-Enterprise reports the defendants are 32-year-old Sparkle Shorale Nelson, 31-year-old Shykeena Monique Johnson and 37-year-old Jerrika Johnson. All three have pleaded not guilty charges including conspiracy, identity theft, mail fraud and wire fraud.A tentative trial date was set for Aug. 20. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A federal judge has sided with the Trump campaign's request to halt a California law that's aimed at forcing the president to release his tax returns.U.S. District Judge Morrison England Jr. said Thursday that he'll issue a formal ruling by Oct. 1.The ruling marks a major victory for Trump, who is fighting multiple Democratic-led efforts to force him to reveal the returns. California is expected to appeal. The Trump campaign and Republican parties have sued over the law requiring candidates to release their tax returns to appear on the March 2020 primary ballot.Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the law in July.Lawyers for Trump and Republicans argue that it violates the U.S. Constitution by adding an additional requirement to run for president. They also said a federal law requiring presidents to disclose financial information supersedes state law. 898

Right now, thousands of people are without power on the Gulf Coast, and the relentless rains and remnants of what was Hurricane Sally is now soaking the Carolinas and moving northeast. In hard-hit Alabama, where the storm first struck land as a Category 2 Hurricane, debris-laced waters have taken over once-thriving neighborhoods. Swollen and rising rivers are now threatening bridges across Florida. At least two people have been killed since Sally made landfall."Citizens awoke to extensive damage and destructive property, loss of power and infrastructure and sadly even the loss of life," Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said Thursday. One of those deaths occurred in Georgia, when Sally's heavy rains saturated the soil, triggering the collapse of a tree onto a home."Widespread river flooding is ongoing, and it could continue over the next week in different parts of Florida," Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Thursday.Thousands of homes and businesses on the Gulf Coast are still without power, 48 hours after Sally made landfall."Power though is a major, major initiative and a priority at this point," DeSantis said. "...they do have crews here working. They are going to be working 24/7 to get the power back on."Now, officials are keeping their eyes on new threats brewing. The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring six storms in the Atlantic. One of those systems has already developed into a major hurricane, though it isn't expected to impact the U.S. However, Tropical Depression 22 is expected to strengthen into at least a Tropical Storm in the coming days before making landfall in Texas."There are seven systems out there right now," said Greg Michel, the executive director of Mississippi Emergency Management. "One of which the system in the bay of Campeche, we could be doing this again in a few days." 1831

Robot janitors are already at Walmart, so they are now making their way to Sam's Club.According to a press release by Brain Corp, which is the company making the robot floor scrubbers, Sam's Club will put 372 of them into its stores by this fall.In 2018, Walmart placed the Auto-C – Autonomous Cleaner into 78 Walmart stores.Walmart, which owns Sam's, announced last year it would bring autonomous floor scrubbers to more than 1,800 of its stores by next February, CNN reported. The company says that's so employees can help customers instead of mopping floors."After an associate preps the area, this machine can be programmed to travel throughout the open parts of the store, leaving behind a clean, polished floor," Walmart said in a press release. "Auto-C provides a cleaner shopping experience for our customers, and it frees up our associates to serve them better." 878

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Rochester, New York, say two people died and 14 others were wounded by gunfire at a backyard party early Saturday. Acting Police Chief Mark Simmons says a man and woman in their late teens or early 20s died. The others wounded have injuries not considered to be life-threatening. The shooting comes as the city in Western New York has been rocked by the suffocation death of Daniel Prude. Prude's March death has led to protests this month and upheaval in the city's police department. The acting police chief says no suspect is in custody. 581
