Nancy Sussman is no stranger to the courthouse. Usually, she’s representing her clients, but this time she’s defending herself against criminal charges that could send her to prison.Traffic backed up. Drivers snapping video of how the high speed chase ended. Police say Sussman finally stopped when they laid down spike strips. Still, they say she refused to come out of the car, eventually forcing them to smash out one of the windows.10News is learning new details about the woman behind the wheel of the white Mercedes. Sussman is a longtime medical malpractice attorney.RELATED: Woman arrested after leading police on chaseIn court Tuesday, she represented herself. “Are you an attorney,” the judge asked.The judge entered a not guilty plea on Sussman’s behalf. She’s charged with felony evading, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest.Sussman tried to explain to the judge why she didn’t stop. “Regarding the chase, I was a victim of police brutality on October 28th.”According to a police report, the October 28 case involves Sussman and her neighbor, a Border Patrol agent. In that case, she’s charged with burglary, making criminal threats, vandalism and other charges.On December 30, police tried pulling her over on that warrant, finally arresting her after that chase on I-5.If convicted on the charges connected to the chase, Sussman faces more than six years in prison. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - President Trump's call for some teachers to be armed is sparking local debate.Linda bought her first handgun three years ago for personal protection. She's a local music teacher at elementary, middle and high schools who applauds the President's idea. "It's a good idea because we're going against violence people doing violent things. I can't protect all 30 of my students with pencils, erasers and rulers," said Linda.RELATED: Trump pushing to 'finally do something' on gunsEric Heins, President of the California Teachers Association, is in town for the state Democratic convention and says schools should not be a war zone. "To try and militarize a student campus by introducing more guns is insane. On a practical level, it wouldn't work," said Heins.He says teachers are simply not trained to deal with shooters armed with assault rifles, trying to figure out who and what to shoot at.RELATED: University in Florida to allow teachers, staff to carry guns through program with sheriff's office"It's a recipe for unintentional disaster," said Heins.But Linda, who owns concealed weapons permits in five states, says teachers can be trained. According to Sharp Grossmont Hospital, the flowers were cut fresh from the hospital’s gardens and delivered to the 24 women who became mothers Sunday. The program, called “This Bud’s for You” is now in its 11th year. According to the hospital, the program was initiated by landscapers to cheer patients up. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Officials from Mexico and the United States held a joint meeting Friday to discuss binational relations, legislation, and urban mobility strategies. At the discussion, officials from both sides of the border discussed solutions to the Tijuana River contamination issue and the concept of a new port of entry. Board member Mario Lopez was joining the group from Tecate and he was very supportive of the new port of entry. He supports the initial plans to have an additional border crossing at Jacumba and Tecate. Lopez says that the wait time at San Ysidro is hurting the economic growth, “10 billion dollars lost because of border wait time” he tells 10News. About 20 years ago, SANDAG did a study and it showed the necessity of another port of entry. The Mayor of Imperial Beach, Serge Dedina tells 10News, “on of our biggest source of air pollution comes from the trucks and cars waiting to cross the border”. Right now, the Jacumba Port of Entry is a concept, “these projects take many years” Lopez tells 10News it will take another 10 years but in the meantime they’re hoping to get the funding to purchase the land within the next five years. Aside from economic and environmental impacts, supporters of the port of entry say it’ll also be beneficial for trade relations between California and Mexico. Another topic discussed at the binational meeting was the Tijuana River contamination issue. Mayor Dedina tells 10News the new president in Mexico is “looking at more public-private partnerships for public water reuse”. In fact, last year they passed a partnership with an Israeli company, Odis. It’s a filtration plant that will help lead a water reuse project south of the border. Dedina says, “the project could clean up 30 million gallons of sewage a day”. Compared to previous years, Dedina is more optimistic seeing steps being made to solve a major problem that continues to threaten our southern beaches. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials with the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show announced this year's air and ground military event has been canceled citing the coronavirus pandemic.The 66-year-old air acrobatics demonstration is one of the nation's largest military air shows drawing several hundred thousand spectators over the three-day weekend event.MCAS Miramar tweeted, "Due to the continuing spread and health concerns of #COVID19, @MCASMiramarCA must formally announce the cancellation of the 2020 Miramar Air Show. It is a disappointment to us as well as many across the world, but the safety of our Marines and fellow San Diegans must come first."This is the first time the event has been canceled since 2013 when the U.S. Department of Defense slashed budgets due to a government shutdown.This year's event was scheduled for September 25-27. Officials said they are aiming to bring back the event next year.“While we had initially hoped to host the show and help usher in a re-opened San Diego, there are still a great many risks posed with a mass gathering of this size and scale to do it in a way that ensures our guests absolute safety," said Col.
