An autopsy performed on Kirkersville, Ohio police chief James Hughes Jr. revealed that the chief died of an accidental drug overdose from fentanyl, which he allegedly obtained from the police's evidence room, the Newark Advocate reported. Hughes died on May 25 after he was found unresponsive in his bathroom. An investigation conducted by police in nearby Reynoldsburg, Ohio alleged that Hughes took the drugs from the police evidence room as part of evidence involving other cases. The autopsy was performed by the Franklin County Coroner's Office in Columbus. Hughes was named chief of police on March 13, despite a checkered record, according to the Advocate. The Advocate reported that Hughes was found guilty of disorderly conduct in 2013 when Hughes allegedly yelled racial slurs at fast food employees. Investigators in Reynoldsburg said that from this point, the Ohio Attorney's General Office should handle the investigation.  999

An email sent to businesses and organizations across the country on Thursday appears to be a hoax, authorities from the New York Police Department said. According to NYPD's Twitter page, the email, which prompts victims to make a Bitcoin payment, is a scheme to either "cause disruption and/or obtain money."Police in New York said they have searched various places where the email has been sent, and no devices have been found. NYPD said they will continue to respond to calls for service if anyone receives a threat. Authorities in other states have conducted similar searches. ANAHEIM, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested in Santa Ana Monday in the murder of an Escondido man whose body was discovered in the trunk of a car parked in Anaheim. Orange County authorities held a news conference Wednesday announcing the arrest of Antonio Silva Lopez, 27. As SWAT teams raided the home, they discovered another man inside who had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom, KABC reports. Lopez has been charged with murder along with a felony count of kidnapping for ransom-extortion or to commit robbery or a sex crime, court records show.
