The wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Rebecca Zahau focused Thursday on the thoroughness of the investigation, with the lead Sheriff's detective on the case taking the stand. Zahau's death was ruled a suicide by four different investigative agencies but the Zahau family believes Rebecca was murdered by her boyfriend's brother, Adam Shacknai. The questioning by David Elsberg, attorney for Adam Shacknai, was aimed at showing investigators left no stone unturned. Elsberg's initial focus was on dispelling the scream that a neighbor reported may have come from the Coronado mansion around the time of Rebecca's death.  As Adam Shacknai's attorney pointed at areas of an overhead projection screen of the Coronado mansion, Detective Tsuida said the reported scream actually came from an area northwest of the property, toward the beach, and not from the balcony area where Rebecca Zahau was found dead. The attorney also showed a series of photos of footprints on the balcony, including bare prints that would support Rebecca standing on the balcony and near the balcony's edge. The questioning by Elsberg went on to the collection of potential DNA evidence and the intricate detail work involved.  Detective Tsuida testified that none of Adam Shacknai's DNA was found on the rope or knife, or several other items that might suggest he had anything to do with her death. 1480

We are unwavering in our commitment to enforcing civil rights in healthcare,” Roger Severino, Director of the Office for Civil Rights at HHS.The Human Rights Campaign already announced it will sue the Trump Administration to stop the move.“We cannot and will not allow Donald Trump to continue attacking us. Today, the Human Rights Campaign is announcing plans to sue the Trump administration for exceeding their legal authority and attempting to remove basic health care protections from vulnerable communities including LGBTQ people. And, to add insult to injury, the administration finalized this rule on the anniversary of the Pulse shooting, where a gunman killed 49 people in an LGBTQ nightclub,” said HRC President Alphonso David. “LGBTQ people get sick. LGBTQ people need health care. LGBTQ people should not live in fear that they cannot get the care they need simply because of who they are. The U.S. has now recorded more than 3 million new cases of COVID-19 in the month of November alone, according to a database kept by Johns Hopkins University.According to Johns Hopkins, the U.S. has recorded at least 3.1 million cases of COVID-19 since Nov. 1 — more than 25% of all the cases the country has seen since the pandemic began.The spike in cases has led to a concerning jump in virus-related hospitalizations across the country. According to the COVID Tracking Project, more than 83,000 people across the country are currently battling the coronavirus in a hospital — the most the country has seen since the pandemic began. The COVID Tracking Project reports that while the entire country is seeing a spike in hospitalizations, the Midwest and South have been hit particularly hard — 69% of all COVID-19 hospitalizations across the country have occurred in those two regions.The spike has led to a concerning increase in hospital resources. In some rural hospitals in the Upper Midwest, there aren't beds to spare.The COVID Tracking Project also reports that there has been a significant uptick in deaths since the start of November. Since Oct. 31, the 7-day average of daily deaths has increase from 810 to 1,470. The current rate of deaths per day hasn't been seen in the U.S. since mid-May. The concerning spike occurs as much of the country sees the weather turn colder ahead of winter months, and comes as Americans prepare to celebrate the holiday season — something health officials warn could further facilitate the spread of the virus. The CDC has recommended that Americans not travel to celebrate Thanksgiving with loved ones and recommends against hosting large gatherings this year.It also comes as several drug companies, including AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer have all reported encouraging results from their COVID-19 vaccine trials.
