HUD Secretary Ben Carson said on Friday that he was “desperately ill” during his recent bout with the coronavirus.Carson said that he took an experimental treatment like the one given to President Donald Trump last month. Carson said he was cleared to take the treatment by Trump, which Carson said “saved his life.”“I have several co-morbidities and after a brief period when I only experienced minor discomfort, the symptoms accelerated and I became desperately ill,” Carson said. “President Trump was following my condition and cleared me for the monoclonal antibody therapy that he had previously received, which I am convinced saved my life.”There are several monoclonal antibody treatments that are in the experimental phase of testing and have not been given an emergency use authorization by the FDA. It’s unclear which exact drug Carson was given.Carson was among a large number of White House staffers and contacts of Trump who have become ill with the coronavirus in the last seven weeks. The owner of 29 Diner has a big personality, but he might have a bigger heart.“We have the philosophy that we want to put the community first, always, but especially during the pandemic,” said Wood.While many restaurants have been trying to figure out how to serve takeout and keep the lights on, Wood and his team have been trying to figure out how to feed people in need.“We decided that we were going to turn our restaurant into a free food pantry and a free food kitchen,” said Wood.It started as a way to feed kids who wouldn’t be getting meals at schools anymore during the pandemic, but the 29 Diner team saw the need was greater.“We knew that we needed to do more than just feed the kids. So we decided to not only provide hot meals but we needed to open a community pantry as well,” said Wood.29 Diner has been a staple in Fairfax, Virginia, for a long time.“We love the service. It’s so friendly and being part of the community, it feels so natural,” said Melissa Schous, a customer who stopped in for lunch.Wood has been providing free meals and groceries to whoever needs them since the pandemic hit.“The diner became a seven-day-a-week, 12-hour-a-day free food pantry, free food kitchen, feeding thousands of meals daily. We had cars that wrapped around the diner feeding 60 to 80 families a day,” said Wood.The diner takes donations online, or in person with donation jars all around the diner. They use that money to buy the food they give away.While there wasn’t anyone coming in to grab food today, the diner converted their food truck into a mobile food pantry to deliver food throughout the community.Wood's willingness to help others in need is benefiting his business in other ways.And while Wood is willing to do what he takes to give his community a hand up, it’s having other benefits for his business.“Expanded our hours of operation here, we hired additional folks. So we completely reversed the trends of the pandemic of the impact into a small business, because we were taking care of our community,” said Wood.That’s right, 29 Diner is hiring, in this economy!Wood wouldn’t say he exact numbers, but said before the pandemic, he had enough cash to last a few months if business took a turn. Since his efforts to feed Fairfax, he’s seen that pile increase which he says he wants to use to keep feeding families.“We believe that if we touch you in the heart, if you believe in our community, you’ll want to come in and give us your money. You’re going to want to come in and patronize our business because of our goodwill to the community,” said Wood.And if you’re they’re for the good will, you might want to try the food too.“You walk in, they greet you like you’ve been there before and the food just feels like your aunt cooked it,” said Schous.Nothing like a hot meal to fill your belly, and maybe your heart too. 2916

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise has been released from a Washington, DC, hospital following a "successful" surgery, according to MedStar Washington Hospital Center.The hospital released a statement Saturday saying the Louisiana Republican was discharged from the hospital and "the planned surgery was successful." The congressman "will be recovering at home for the next several days," the statement added.The congressman's Twitter account also shared the statement. CNN reported earlier this month that Scalise was beginning a "series of planned, inpatient procedures" while continuing to recover from injuries he sustained in a shooting last year.Scalise suffered a gunshot wound last summer when a gunman opened fire at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.In September, Scalise returned to Congress for the first time since the attack, saying at the time that he is "a living example that miracles really do happen."  957

And also, dealing with a super low inventory across the country," said David Lewis, a realtor in the Atlanta area. Lewis says for those who are relocating, COVID-19 wariness may prevent potential buyers from seeing a property in person. Plus, traveling can be difficult right now."A lot of times, some of them we’re videoing the home for them and some of them are just looking at the pictures and submitting blind offers and just hoping, trusting us to give them a little bit of guidance and also making sure the inspections and things are in line to offer that level of protection," said Lewis.Experts say, when buying virtually, a good home inspection is a must. "It should catch most everything. Now remember, a home inspection is a visual inspection. We’re not allowed to take siding off a house, we see trim damage then that's what we see. We can’t take a look between that wall," said Donny Williams, the Director of Business Development and Marketing for All Atlanta AmeriSpec.Overall, he doesn't recommend buying a home without going inside it first, but he and many other inspectors at his company are seeing it more often now. "I was actually surprised the number of times it actually happened. The guys could remember seven to 15 times each. There’s several laws and regulations around what a real estate professional can share and information they can give on a neighborhood. So, a lot of times that's always up to the consumer, anyways, right, to get a good feel for the neighborhood or understand the dynamics or school or surrounding area," said Lewis.Overall, make sure before you swipe right to buy a home, meet it first, if at all possible.
