BONITA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Bonita family has been making gift bags for children in need for eight years and the pandemic this holiday season didn't stop them from spreading joy.Usually the assemblyline forms in Diane Zoura's garage the weekend after Thanksgiving. There's lots of friends, family and food to go around. This year the pandemic pushed them outside, under a tent a week later than planned."We are more spaced out this year, we set up outside, we’re taking temperatures, we’re all wearing masks so we’re just being more safe," Zoura said.They had to delay the event because a family member was sickened with the coronavirus weeks earlier. She said everyone is okay and they wanted to make sure everyone was safe when they did come together.Sunday, they were focused not on the pandemic, but on giving the gift of love and joy, a thousand times over."We’re going to give 400 of them to Build a Miracle and they’re going to hand them out to homeless children in Mexico and then we’re going to be giving the rest to the Polinsky Children’s Center for the foster kids in San Diego." Zoura said they wanted to send more gifts than last year.In 2019, they sent 750 gifts, in 2020 they'll distribute 1,000 and their ambitious goal for 2021 is 2,000 gifts. Broadcaster Thom Brennaman has been removed from his post as a Fox Sports play by play announcer after a hot microphone caught him saying a homophobic slur on the air during an MLB game on Wednesday.In a statement, Fox Sports called Brennaman’s comments “unacceptable.”"FOX Sports is extremely disappointed with Thom Brennaman's remarks during Wednesday's Cincinnati Reds telecast. The language used was abhorrent, unacceptable, and not representative of the values of FOX Sports. As it relates to Brennaman's FOX NFL role, we are moving forward with our NFL schedule which will not include him," the statement read.Brennaman said the homophobic slur during Game 1 of a doubleheader between the Reds and Royals. The broadcast was heard on Fox Sports Ohio, which broadcasts most Reds games.At the start of the fifth inning of Game 2, Brennaman apologized for the slur and was replaced by Jim Day for the remainder of the game. BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Up and down South Florida, garbage can be found along our streets, parking lots, and sidewalks.A Boynton Beach man and his group of volunteers, known as the "Litter Hikers of America," are trying to reverse the trend to create a litter-free environment.Sunrises in sunny South Florida are a special moment."Really nice and calming for me. I enjoy it," said Richard Reyes. "This is my coffee right here."Reyes takes it in every morning before checking his tools, supplies, and his route for the day."Going to be a very good day. Hope to get lots of litter," said Reyes.On this day, he and his crew were on Federal Highway in Boynton Beach."When I walk, I do the median and crew does the sides," said Reyes, who was joined by his friends Suzie and Shawn.They have quite a few fans. The three of them search the streets, sidewalks, and parking lots."I have a facemask, gloves," said Reyes as he picked up trash.There are bad surprises and sometimes good. On this day the Publix parking lot was clean.No matter the weather, Reyes is out there."Six times a week. Sometimes seven," said Reyes.Reyes has been picking up trash since his days on the west coast of Florida, back when life threw him a curveball."Aortic valve replacement and an aneurism repaired," said Reyes.Following his recovery, Reyes started walking and gathering trash."I can’t go long distances like I used to. So walking is very healthy for me and that’s a big reason why I do it," said Reyes. "I came out here and continue the effort in Boynton Beach."At the end of his cleanups, he weighs his garbage. He collects data too."43,200 pounds of litter this year," said Reyes.Proof that Reyes has a long journey ahead of him, but he knows each step along South Florida’s streets, inches him closer to his goal. A goal of a clean, litter-free environment."Call it a sport if you will. Walking, stretching, picking up litter. Can’t beat it," said Reyes.Reyes is now retired and plans to do his clean-ups as long as he can.
