The South Korean government says thousands of BMWs will be banned from the country's roads after some vehicles caught fire.The German automaker is facing a public relations crisis in South Korea over the fires, which it has blamed on a problem with the cars' exhaust systems.BMW recalled more than 100,000 vehicles in South Korea last month and has been carrying out emergency inspections. It expanded the checks to Europe last week.As of late Monday, more than 27,000 of the affected BMWs in South Korea still hadn't been checked, according to the South Korean government."Our citizens are deeply concerned," Transportation Minister Kim Hyun-mee said Tuesday. The U.S. has surpassed another bleak marker in the COVID-19 pandemic, as the country has reached 10 million confirmed cases of the virus, according to a database kept by Johns Hopkins.The milestone comes just hours after global cases surpassed 50 million, meaning about one out of every five people around the world diagnosed with the virus since the pandemic began has been diagnosed in the U.S.At least 237,000 Americans have died of the virus since the pandemic began. The U.S. continues to lead the world in both total cases and in deaths linked to the virus.The U.S. surpassed its 10 millionth case as the country deals with a disturbing spike in infections ahead of the winter months. The country surpassed 120,000 new cases in a single day three times last week, obliterating previous records. Prior to last week, the most confirmed cases the U.S. had seen in a single day was 102,000.The U.S. has recorded a million new cases of COVID-19 in the last 10 days alone. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USPSC) announced Wednesday that it is issuing a recall of Xtava Allure hair dryers due to concerns that they could catch fire or deliver electrical shocks.According to the USPSC, the recall affects more than 200,000 hair dryers.Nearly 200 people have reported the dryers and power cords have either "overheated, melted, exploded or caught fire" while in use. Eighteen people sustained burns while using the product, with one of those being classified as a "severe" burn.The dryers were sold online at Amazon, eBay, Walmart and Groupon, in addition to Xtava's own website. They were sold individually or in a hair care pack that included "treatment products, a flat iron or a diffuser."The affected products include the following SKU numbers on a label on the back:  XTV010001, XTV010001N, XTV010002, or XTV010002N.Those with the dryers should contact Xtava directly.
