SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- This week, the Del Mar Union School District and Cajon Valley School District went back to in-person classes. However, most public schools in the county are continuing in distance learning.“It’s tiring, to say the least,” said teacher Kelly Martin. She teachers in the Chula Vista Elementary School District.Dawn Harrison also teaches in that district. While she dealt with some technical problems with her first-grade class, she said “it went better than I thought it would go.”Martin said she has been able to make connections with her students even through a computer screen. She also met virtually with each student one-on-one.“It’s been a challenge with tech issues outside of our control… people’s cameras aren’t working, people’s microphones aren’t working. I feel like besides being a teacher, I’ve taken on the role of tech support!” Martin said.ABC 10News first checked in with the teachers at the end of July before the school year started. Since then, Harrison said she has dealt with a rollercoaster of emotions. “Fear, anxiety, stress, a little bit of excitement,” Harrison said.She’s not the only one in her household dealing with an unusual school year. Her husband, Rick Meads, is a teacher at Eastlake High School.“I have 160 students or so. I see most of them every day. There are some that are still struggling with access,” Meads said.He teaches theater, drama, and digital arts. While he said he is missing out on the personal interaction with students, he is adjusting his curriculum.“Instead of doing a fall play this year, we’re going to do a radio show. They’re writing their own script. It’s going to be a Halloween, scary type of thing,” Meads said.They all say being in the classroom with their students is easier that distance learning, which involves a lot more preparation.“I’m definitely working longer hours. The good part is I have no commute,” Martin said.As far as when they will feel comfortable conducting in-person classes again, there is no definitive answer.Meads said it will be a challenge to keep social distance between students. “It’s a nightmare thinking of going back unless it’s really safe,” Meads said. “I really haven’t spent too much time thinking about going back yet. I think I’m so consumed with just staying alive right now!” his wife Dawn said. 2331

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three cars were totaled after a semi crashed into a hydrant in the Midway District, sending water spewing into the air. The crash happened on the 2300 block of Sports Arena Boulevard around 1:45 p.m.Water could be seen shooting into the air and flooding the nearby street. It wasn't immediately clear what led to the crash. According to authorities, the water gushing out of the hydrant also picked up rocks, sending them shooting through windshields of nearby cars and flooding them with water.  544

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego family of a Los Angeles firefighter who may have been kidnapped in Rosarito, Mexico, is speaking out.It’s been more than two weeks since 20-year veteran LA City firefighter Frank Aguilar was last seen after heading to his second home in Baja, California.“We’re hopeful. We haven't lost hope,” his local cousin Nancy told ABC10 News. She’s only providing a first name, due to safety concerns. “Nobody seems to know anything and it's very frustrating for the family to not know anything."On Wednesday, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that his office learned from Mexican authorities that the 48-year-old firefighter may have been violently kidnapped from his Baja condo. “We will work tirelessly to make sure that Frank is returned safely,” he said in a news conference."[The mayor] did mention that he is going to provide all resources from Los Angeles to help get my dad back,” said daughter Amaris Aguilar.“I had just spoken to my dad the morning that we discovered he was missing. When he left for Rosarito, he was describing how safe or how good he felt in that community. He wanted to retire there,” added daughter Bella Aguilar.The daughters say that his condo was in a guard-gated community.His family has told reporters that his phone is off and they've heard that his condo may have been ransacked, his vehicles are missing and Ring video shows a troubling scene.“We're going to get you back. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three men were arrested in Tijuana for the brutal murder of three teens in Mexico, including two from San Diego. The three suspects, identified only as Fabricio, Esteban Manuel and Alejandro were arrested at an unknown time, authorities in Mexico say. 17-year-old Christopher Alexis Gomez and 18-year-old Juan Suarez Ojeda were found shot to death in Tijuana on November 25. Both teenagers attended O'Farrell Charter School in Encanto. Another teen believed to be Ojeda’s friend was also killed. RELATED: Two San Diegans, Mexican teen shot to death in TijuanaGomez’s cousin, Katheryn Garcia, said the two were likely tortured in different locations before being killed execution-style in front of a housing complex. Garcia said her cousin planned to head to a barbecue in Ensenada on Friday. Investigators believe all three teenagers were taken from an apartment complex at gunpoint before being killed. It’s still unknown why the teens may have been targeted. But lifeguards are warning people expected to flock to the shores of San Diego about stingrays. “The stingrays are out in full force,” lifeguards said in a Facebook post. According to lifeguards, the California round ray feeds in the shallows off the California coast. RELATED: Today's full forecastThe creatures lay partially buried in the sand while hunting, causing problems for unknowing beachgoers. “Stingrays have a sheathed barb in their tail that is used when stepped on or when threatened,” the post continued.
