SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One person was killed in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 805 in the South Bay that forced lane closures and led to a heavy traffic backup during the Wednesday morning commute.Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol reported a crash involving a Nissan pickup truck colliding with a Caltrans truck that was working along the side of northbound I-805 near Bonita Road.CHP officials determined that a Toyota Yaris struck the pickup, causing it to slam into the back of the Caltrans truck, which was hauling asphalt.CHECK TRAFFIC CONDITIONS10News learned the Nissan's driver died at the hospital after sustaining injuries from the wreck.Yaris' driver, a 29-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.No other injuries were reported, and CHP officials said the crash is under investigation.The crash and clean-up led to the closure of at least two lanes on northbound I-805 at Bonita Road. The onramp from Bonita Road to northbound I-805 was also shut down.The closures caused a traffic jam that extended south past Palomar Street in Chula Vista.To alleviate some of the gridlock, the CHP opened the HOV lanes to all vehicles. 1207

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are investigating the death of a man discovered in a Barrio Logan alley.A 50-year-old man was found just after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in the south alley of 1600 Logan Ave. with trauma to his upper torso, according to San Diego Police. Police and first responders rendered medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the incident. Officers said the man was a homeless person who frequented the area. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More rain arrived in San Diego Wednesday, less than a week after a storm swept through the county, leaving some areas flooded and city crews preparing for the wet weather.In Coronado, on First Street, crews worked to clear pipes near the shoreline. This is a large reason for flooding in the area. Public Services Director, Clifford Maurer, says flooding comes after sand and sediment gets into the storm drain from the high tides.“Some of the outfalls, the pipes that go into the bay or into the open waters have flapper valves on them. So they only allow water to go out, not come in,” says Maurer. “But when the water is above those valves there’s nothing you can do. The bags are already filled and can be picked up at four different locations around the island.The City of San Diego is also preparing for the rain. The move brings back chilling memories for Korean War vets in San Diego. 10News reporter Jennifer Delacruz sat down with one of those vets ahead of an Honor Flight to the Washington, D.C. next week. Bob Weishan's trophy room takes him back to a different time -- a time of conflict and destruction."It was interesting," said Weishan. "It's a whole different world that they live in."But when the 87-year-old Korean War veteran looks back today, it's a little different. "It should have happened a long time ago."The resolution of peace between North and South Korea puts even more meaning into the 15 months he was there fighting for freedom.   "You had two options," said Weishan. "One was stay in the trucks and burn to death, or climb out of the trucks and get shot."One of his most haunting memories was watching 100,000 refugees fleeing for their lives. "They were carrying everything they owned with them."Having been there in the trenches, he knows how much his agreement means to those families who left and those still there today. "For the North Koreans, I think they're on their knees every night with prayers that this is a success and that this doesn't fail because it gives them a way out."Although it's still early on, he says it's a step in the right direction. "It's a little bit of hope," said Weishan. "At least they're talking. And if something comes out of it, it could be good."Weishan joins about 25 other vets who leave for their Honor Flight on May 4th.  1670
