SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As if San Diego's craft beer scene doesn't already have enough options, the legalization of marijuana has created new opportunities for companies interested in the world of the cannabis-infused.Enter High Style, a San Diego-based brewery launching a THC-infused, non-alcoholic beer called "Pale Haze." High Style says consumers will feel a "fast onset similar to drinking an alcoholic beer," with a "light, clear headed, and euphoric high." But those effects could be different person to person."We recommend if someone isn't a heavy cannabis user, to start with half a beer, wait 1-2 hours for the effects to fully settle, and then have more as needed for the desired level," Threw said.Currently, the beer is only available at the dispensaries March and Ash in Mission Valley and Mankind Cooperative in Miramar. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities responded to a riot Friday night at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in Otay Mesa that left five people injured, including at least one with serious injuries.Cal Fire San Diego said about 100 inmates were in the prison yard when a fight broke out around 8 p.m. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said Saturday that number was closer to 80 inmates.CDCR said officers gave multiple orders to stop fighting, before using several rounds of less-than-lethal force to stop the incident.Four inmate-made weapons were recovered, CDCR said.Five inmates were injured and had to be transported outside the prison for treatment, for injuries including puncture wounds, cuts, and bruises to the head, neck, and torso areas, CDCR says. Cal Fire had previously reported that six inmates were transferred from the scene.One of those inmates suffering from puncture wounds was in critical condition. Three inmates were in fair condition and the fifth was treated and returned to prison, CDCR said.No prison staff members were injured.The facility canceled visitation for Facility A Saturday and Sunday in light of the riot. 1175

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Consumer spending in San Diego was down nearly .3 billion between February and April 2020, showing just how badly the COVID-19 pandemic crippled the local economy.Since stay-at-home orders began in March, SANDAG says taxable sales in the region dropped from an average of .3 billion to billion in April.The largest losses in the region were seen at apparel stores (an 83% decrease in sales) and restaurants (down 67%).On the other side, big-box retailers like Costco, Target, and Walmart have fared well, SANDAG says. Grocery stores and pharmacy, though, were actually down 10% in taxable sales. Home improvement sales were also up, likely due to stimulus checks, SANDAG adds."It is interesting to learn that grocery stores and pharmacy sales are actually down by 10%, while home improvement sales have spiked," said SANDAG Chief Economist Ray Major. "We can assume that during the pandemic, people had more time to work on outdoor landscaping, gardens, and other home beautification projects.
