(KGTV) — Former first lady Barbara Pierce Bush has passed away in Texas. She was 92.Her passing was confirmed in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon by the Office of George H. Bush post-White House spokesman, Jim McGrath.It was reported on April 15 that after a "recent series of hospitalizations" Bush would not seek additional medical care. She had been suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, and congestive heart failure.RELATED: Social media reacts to Barbara Bush's passingInstead, she had chosen to seek comfort care. Since she has been surrounded by family members at her Houston home.As "everybody's grandmother" as she would say, Bush was regarded by many as warm, well-mannered, and quick with wit.Bush was born in 1925 in Rye, New York. She went on to attend boarding school in South Carolina, where she met her husband, George H.W., while she was 16 years old. The two became engaged a year and a half later, just before he went off to war as a Navy torpedo bomber pilot. The Bushes married on Jan. 6, 1945.As her husband mounted a career in oil and eventually politics, Bush was a linchpin, managing 29 moves of her family.Her sixth child, Robin, died from leukemia before she was four years old. Bush said "because of Robin, George and I love every living human more," according to the White House archives.Bush was a fierce advocate in her husband's corner during his political career.Before serving as first lady, she served as second lady from 1981 to 1989. During that time Bush was a proponent of literacy, calling it the "most important issue we have." She established the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, which works to promote preschool and parental literacy.She was also an advocate for volunteerism, helping causes related to the homeless, AIDS, the elderly, and schools, according to the White House.Bush was the only living wife of one former President and the mother of another former President. She and her husband had been married for 73 years.Bush is survived by her husband; five children George W., Neil, Marvin, Jeb, and Dorothy; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Scott Pierce.Shortly after Bush's passing, her son George W. issued a statement saying, "I’m a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother. Newsom’s office, the free CA Notify system “will help reduce the transmission of COVID-19.” Californians can opt into the digital tool “to receive COVID-19 notifications informing them if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus,” Newsom’s office said.Officials confirmed CA Notify is “a completely private, anonymous and secure tool that does not collect location data from any device and never shares user identities.”iPhone users can enable CA Notify by going to Settings, and then to Exposure Notifications. From there, users will have the option to Turn On Exposure Notifications. Users will then choose United States, followed by California.Android device users who want to be notified will have to download the CA Notify app from the Google Play store.How CA Notify functions, according to state officials:“When individuals voluntarily activate CA Notify, the tool uses Bluetooth technology to exchange random codes between phones without revealing the user’s identity or location.If a CA Notify user tests positive for COVID-19, they will receive a verification code to plug into the app, if they choose. Any other CA Notify users who have been within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more of the COVID-19 positive individual will get an anonymous notification of possible exposure.CA Notify will accelerate how quickly people get notified of a possible COVID-19 exposure, giving people the information they need to make responsible decisions around quarantine and testing.Users who have tested positive for COVID-19 will get a text from the California Department of Public Health at 855-976-8462 with a code which they can enter into CA Notify triggering an alert to phones of people who may have been exposed in the previous 14 days.”The CA Notify system began this fall as a pilot program at UC San Diego and UC San Francisco. 2011

(KGTV) - A San Diego man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police say he stabbed two classmates during a reenactment of a movie scene at the University of Hartford in Connecticut.The man, identified as Jake Wascher, 21, was in an on-campus apartment with two male classmates when the stabbing occurred."A 21 year old male suffered one puncture wound to the chest and four to the back. A second victim a 19 year old male suffered from a single puncture wound to the chest as well as a puncture wound to the back," Lieutenant Paul Cicero with Hartford Police said.Wascher attended the Coronado School of the Arts, a pre-professional arts education program on Coronado High School's campus. His Facebook page states he graduated in 2016.10News spoke with a former student of CoSA, who worked as a tech for a year."CoSA is really a mostly just a bunch of nerds, all of the acting kids and music students, just dorks really," Christian Molenaar said.
