A suspended Buffalo Police officer accused of assaulting a suspect in the Buffalo city lockup has been found not guilty on all charges.32-year-old Joseph Hassett was charged with two counts of third-degree assault, official misconduct, offering a false instrument for filing and making a punishable false written statement in connection to an incident that happened in March 2017.Judge Russell Buscaglia heard a bench trial in State Supreme Court and announced the not guilty verdict Thursday morning.According to investigators, Hassett was recorded on camera allegedly assaulting a drug suspect on March 18, 2017. The suspect was taken to ECMC for a head injury and a cut on his forehead that required stitches. The Erie County District Attorney's Office and the Buffalo Police Department both said they didn't learn about the incident until video of the confrontation was requested by the victim's attorney during the course of his criminal case stemming from the March arrest. 1032

A man wanted in connection with a quadruple murder in Detroit has shot himself, according to police. George Anthony Davis, 27, shot himself near the Ohio Turnpike after leading police on a chase.Police said Davis shot and killed three people, a man and two women, at a gas station iin Detroit Monday morning. The male victim was identified as Deacon Ralphael Hall, leader at a local church, his 26-year-old daughter Cierra Bargineer and 21-year-old Kristen Thomas.Police say surveillance cameras captured everything; a man pulled up in a silver sedan and started talking to people in a gray Dodge SUV. Seconds later, the man in the sedan shot the people in the SUV and shot at the man pumping gas.When he ran out of bullets, he went back to his car to reload, and came back to shoot more. Police say Bargineer was the mother of his child.Second Shooting LocationHe then gets in the car and goes to Faust Street and has a conversation with an adult male cousin and fatally shoots him, police said.  The suspect then goes to a gas station on Faust and takes a 2007 blue Nissan Ultima.Davis was on the run for several hours before police confirmed that he shot himself. A migrant rescue ship has docked in Malta after being stranded for days in the Mediterranean amid a diplomatic dispute over which country should accept the 141 migrants on board.The migrants, including two pregnant women and 67 unaccompanied minors, disembarked from the Aquarius Wednesday at Senglea, a port city in Malta. They will soon be sent to locations in France, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain and Portugal, which have agreed to take them.The mood on board was jubilant as the ship neared the port, according to video tweeted by charity Doctors without Borders (MSF). A mother is grieving the loss of her teenage son, who was stabbed to death Monday morning in Palm Beach Gardens.Jovanni Sierra celebrated his birthday a day early. First, he and his friends played paintball and then they had pizza. He was about to turn 13. Sierra's mom, Karen Abreu recorded video of him with his friends, singing "Happy Birthday" to him, eating pizza. “I could just see it, that night he was so happy. I never thought in my wildest dream that I would get the news I got yesterday,” Abreu said.Jovanni went over to stay at his friend, Dane Bancroft’s house. They’ve known each other for years. “I had told him, are you sure baby? I want you to come home. I want to sing happy birthday, give you a hug and a kiss for your birthday tomorrow,” she said. “He’s like mom, 'It’s OK. I’m going to have fun, please, I love you,’ and that’s the last words he said to me."Palm Beach Gardens police say Dane’s older brother had his friend, 17-year-old Corey Johnson, over that night too. Johnson told police he waited until everyone was asleep around 4 a.m. to kill Jovanni, Dane and Dane’s mother, Elaine. Johnson was allegedly inspired by his Muslim faith, and violent jihadist videos, which encourage killing non-believers, he told police. Dane and Elaine were hurt.
