BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said Tuesday that China and Russia should make joint efforts to achieve common development and combat global challenges.While meeting with Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Sergei Mironov in Beijing, Hu urged the two countries to work for the establishment of a more fair and rational international order.Mironov's visit, which ran from Oct. 17 to 19, was another high-level visit on the heels of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's three-day state visit to China last month."China is willing to work with Russia to materialize consensuses and tasks agreed to during high-level visits," said Hu.Mironov on Monday co-chaired with China's top legislator Wu Bangguo the fourth meeting of the cooperation committee between China's National People's Congress and the Russian Federation Council, a regular parliamentary exchange mechanism for the benefit of bilateral ties.Hu said China supports the increasing exchanges between legislative bodies of the two countries, hoping the two sides could help publicize the ideas of generational friendship and reciprocal cooperation, push forward pragmatic cooperation in various fields and cooperation on adjacent regions of both countries.Hu also said the two countries should enhance coordination within multilateral mechanisms in a bid to contribute to improved China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination.Echoing Hu's remarks, Mironov said the sound development of Russia-China ties complies with the mutual interests of both countries, adding that Medvedev's successful visit, during which the two countries signed a package of deals and agreements, would have a positive impact on future bilateral cooperation.The Russian Federation Council will play its due role in facilitating bilateral cooperation in such areas as politics, trade and energy so as to make new contributions to the friendship between the two countries, Mironov said.Premier Wen Jiabao also met with Mironov later on Tuesday, and called on the two governments to fully implement consensuses reached by the two sides, inject new vitality into the two countries' modernization process and maintain world peace and stability."The profound changes of the international situation has not only offered precious opportunities but also brought forward higher request for developing China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination," Wen said. 

XICHANG, Sichuan, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched the "SinoSat-6" satellite for radio and television live broadcast at 12:14 a.m.Sunday from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province.The satellite was carried on the Long March 3B rocket which took the SinoSat-6 into a geostationary transfer orbit 26 minutes after the launch.In the following days, Xi'an Satellite Control Center and Yuanwang tracking ship will manipulate the satellite's position and transfer it to enter the geostationary orbit.SinoSat-6 has a designed lifespan of 15 years and will eventually work at longitude 126.4 degrees east about 35,700 kilometers above the equator, said the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC), the satellite's researcher and producer.It will mainly serve for relaying TV and radio live broadcast signals and will greatly improve cultural life for people living in remote and mountainous regions, according to China Satellite Communications Corporation which will operate the satellite.China has launched the first SinoSat series satellite, SinoSat-1, in 1998. The SinoSat-2 was launched in 2006 but malfuctioned for it failed to deploy its solar panels and communication antennae.SinoSat-6 will serve as a substitute for SinoSat-3 which was launched on June 1, 2007, according to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Sunday arrived in northeast China's port city of Dalian, the first stop of his three-day China visit.This is Medvedev's second state visit to the country since he assumed presidency in May 2008.On Sunday, Medvedev will visit a memorial to the Soviet Union war dead and meet with veteran Chinese and Russian soldiers who participated in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945).During his stay in the city, the Russian president will stop by the Dalian Institute of Foreign Languages, where he will have brief discussions with Russian language professors and students. He is also slated for a meeting with leaders of northeast China's Liaoning Province.More important meetings are scheduled for Monday when the Russian leader visits Beijing. BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's speech on the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Shenzhen special economic zone (SEZ) was published in five ethnic minority languages on Friday.Shenzhen, a southern coastal city neighboring Hong Kong, marked its 30th anniversary as China's first economic reform zone on Sept. 6.At that day's celebratory rally, Hu said the central government would always support the country's special economic zones, embarking on "brave exploration" in their roles as "first movers.""The SEZs will not only continue, but should work better," Hu said.The late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping first proposed building Shenzhen into a SEZ in the late 1970s.On Aug. 26, 1980, China's top legislature approved the establishment of the Shenzhen SEZ.The speech was published by the Ethnic Publishing House in five minority languages, including Mongolian, Tibetan, Uygur, Kazakstan and Korean.
