SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Google on Monday added a highly-anticipated service to its Google+ social network, allowing businesses and brands to set up their own pages on the site.Named "Google+ Page," the service is a further challenge to its rival Facebook's fan pages, which has become a major promotion strategy for many business brands over the past several years.Unlike Facebook, Google will not charge businesses and organizations for using the scheme, and will not put ads on the pages. That is why the Ministry of Health is working with the Ministry of Education in promoting more physical education in schools and making it compulsory from this school term.Fiji was recently ranked the fourth-most obese nation in the region, according to the Health Ministry.Recent studies in Fiji showed a high incidence of anaemia in children, women and men.Figures released by the ministry said more than 60 percent of the island nation's population is overweight while a significant number are deficient in iron and micronutrients.The figures show that the high rate of premature disability with Non Communicable Diseases (NCD), infection and cancer has taken its toll on the population."The importance of our traditional diets, healthy eating and physical activities is paramount," a ministry statement had said."In the Pacific NCDs have reached epidemic proportions," it said."Nutritional imbalances resulting from not eating local produce instead of canned, processed food contribute to the equation, especially in these times of global economic crisis."Women's Minister Dr. Jiko Luveni has advised mothers in the country this week to stock up on healthy foods for their families.She said having green leafy vegetables was vital and buying fruits for children's snacks instead of salted prepacked ones was the way to keep the family healthy.The National Food and Nutrition Council said Friday that as the school year draws parents should find healthy alternatives for their children.They have urged teachers and parents to include fruits in every child's meal to reduce NCDs.In other countries in the region Tokelau and Nauru's obesity rates stand at 93 percent to 93.5 percent of the population.In American Samoa and Kiribati obesity stands at 81.5 percent of the population, while Marshall Islands at 80.1 percent, Federated States of Micronesia (Pohnpei) at 73.1 percent.

"Over the past ten years HIV diagnoses and deaths in New York City have seen a dramatic decline," said Mayor Bloomberg. "Steady progress in our fight against HIV has turned what used to be a death sentence into a disease that can be prevented and, with antiretroviral therapy, managed.The annual death toll from HIV in the city is down by more than a third: 933 deaths in 2009Despite this progress, however, more than 110,000 people in New York City are infected with HIV, more than in any other U.S. city and about 75 percent of all cases in the New York State.Figures from the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) showed that HHC has tested more than one million New Yorkers for HIV since 2005 when the public hospitals and health centers began offering HIV screening as a routine part of medical care for patients aged 13 to 64.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec 15 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff Thursday signed a law banning smoking in public spaces and tobacco advertising at sale places in his country.Smoking in all enclosed public spaces, defined as free access areas used simultaneously by several people, is forbidden in the new law.It also prohibits tobacco advertising such as posters or banners at sale places. Previously the ban was only imposed on TV, radio and billboards advertising.In addition, the law increases the taxes and establishes minimum prices over the tobacco products to discourage buyers, therefore the cigarettes prices are expected to increase 20 percent in 2012 and 55 percent by 2015.Health warnings are also required on both sides of cigarette packs to alert consumers about the consequences of their smoking habit.The law is welcomed by some anti-smoking groups."In addition to protecting the health of its citizens, Brazil has also set an example for the world," said Matthew Myer, president of Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
