FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- The U.S. Navy is investigating a video in which military work dogs attacked a "Colin Kaepernick stand-in" during a demonstration at a Navy SEAL Museum fundraiser. The event happened last year at the museum in Fort Pierce, Florida, but the video resurfaced over the weekend. On Sunday, the U.S. Navy said in a statement that it appears no active duty personnel were involved. The videos show dogs attack a man in heavy padding wearing a Kaepernick jersey. Rifle-carrying men in fatigues approach him yelling, "On your belly." He replies, "Oh, man, I will stand," as the crowd laughs. 617

Former prisoners are helping former prisoners break in to college courses.  The Urban Scholars Union is a relatively new organization created by ex-cons for ex-cons looking to better themselves through education. USU’s President Cesar Garcia said they started 18 months ago at San Diego City College to help “justice impacted” students succeed. “[We want to] empower them and motivate them to be productive members of society,” said Garcia. “We’re not monsters that they make us out to feel and make us out to be,” said San Diego City College student Ryan Rising. “We’re humans that made poor choices.” Rising spent 15 years behind bars for carjacking and attempted extortion but will matriculate to Cal Berkley on a scholarship after earning his Associate’s at City.“I’m super proud of myself,” he said. Garcia, who served seven years for a list of crimes, said the USU provides a space for former prisoners to get help, guidance, and support. The organization recently expanded to Southwestern College and is working on helping students at Mesa and Grossmont Colleges. USU also recently received its largest donation to date.  Current prisoners at Donovan Correctional in Otay Mesa donated ,000 to USU for scholarships and grants for former prisoners. “It just goes to show you how we do look out for each other,” said Garcia. “We just need go out and advocate to erase all these stigmas,” said Rising. 1470

Former California Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger took another jab at President Donald Trump on Thursday, following news that the administration plans to revoke a signature Obama-era environmental regulation."For 48 years -- since one of my heroes, then-Gov. Ronald Reagan, requested it -- California has had a waiver from the federal government to clean our own air," Schwarzenegger tweeted Thursday. "If the President thinks he can win this fight, he's out of his mind."The Trump administration wants to freeze a rule mandating that automakers work to make cars substantially more fuel efficient. It called its plan a "50-state fuel economy and tailpipe carbon dioxide emissions standard for passenger cars and light trucks."The administration also proposed a withdrawal of California's Clean Air Act pre-emption waiver. California and about a dozen states follow its rules account for about a third of all the passenger vehicles sold in the United States. In his tweet, Schwarzenegger described the proposal as a "stupid, fake-conservative policy announcement that no one asked for."California has, for decades, had a waiver allowing it to set its own emissions standards because the state had distinct air quality issues. In 2007, a federal court allowed California to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, in particular carbon dioxide. This is not the first time Schwarzenegger has taken jabs at the President. In a video uploaded to Facebook by media company ATTN: in June, Schwarzenegger references his popular "Terminator" movie role to mock what described as efforts to "save an industry that is poisoning the environment.""So President Trump, I know you really want to be an action hero, right?" Schwarzenegger says, while looking at a Trump bobblehead. "So take it from the Terminator, you're only supposed to go back in time to protect future generations. But your administration attempts to go back in time to rescue the coal industry, which is actually a threat to future generations."He also compared Trump's attempt to "rescue the coal industry" to rescuing other relics from America's past, like Beanie Babies, beepers and Blockbuster. He has also spoken out against Trump's "zero-tolerance" policy for illegal border crossings, which has led to children being separated from their parents."As an immigrant, I know the magnetic power of America's greatness," Schwarzenegger tweeted on June 19. "As a former border Governor, I know the importance of securing our border and fixing our absurdly broken immigration system. As an American, I know that kids shouldn't be pawns while the 'adults' figure it out."He has also advocated for Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich making a second run for the Oval Office. In an interview with CNN in March, Schwarzenegger said the GOP is "dying at the box office" by not having more inclusive messages and policies. 2887

For the third time in a month, Twitter has taken action against President Donald Trump. After the social networking site labeled a video tweeted by the president as "manipulated media," the platform removed the video citing "a report by the copyright owner. The 60-second clip showed an edited version of a viral video from 2019 where a Black child and a white child run toward each other to hug. Both children then run away in the same direction. The doctored version of the video tweeted by Trump opens with a fake CNN banner and the portion of the video where the black child appears to be running away from the white child."BREAKING NEWS: TERRIFIED TODDLER RUNS AWAY FROM RACIST BABY," the banner reads.A few seconds later, the doctored video shows the children hugging, without the fake CNN banner. The video closes by claiming that "America is not the problem. Fake news is."Twitter added a "manipulated media" tag to Trump's tweet, which linked to more information about the video."In September 2019, CNN reported on a viral video about a friendship between two toddlers," Twitter wrote. "On Thursday, the president shared a version of the video which many journalists confirmed was edited and doctored with a fake CNN chyron."CNN Communications replied to Trump, saying that it covered the viral video as it happened when it happened.White House spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany defended the use of the video. "He was making a point about CNN specifically,” McEnany said. “A point that CNN has regularly taken him out of context."“I think the president was making satirical point that was quite funny if you go and actually watch the video,” McEnany added. “The point was it was a play on CNN repeatedly taking him out of context.”Earlier, this month, Twitter hid one of Trump's tweets from his timeline, as the company said the tweet violated terms for "inciting violence." In the tweet, Trump implied he would encourage the National Guard to shoot anyone looting during protests against police brutality.About a week later, Twitter flagged one of Trump's tweets deriding mail-in-voting because it contained misleading information. 2141

FRESNO, Calif. (KGTV) - More than 200 Marines and Sailors from Camp Pendleton have been helping in the Creek Fire fight for nearly two weeks."This is why Marines sign up, this is why they join the Marine Corps, is to serve," Commanding Officer of the 7th Engineer Support Battalion, Lt. Col. Melina Mesta said during a trip to The Sierra National Forest last weekend. The 233 Marines and Sailors with the 7th ESB deployed September 19th after a day of firefighting training on Camp Pendleton. Lt. Col. Mesta said this task force is equipped with the right tools to pivot on a moment's notice to an unconventional mission like this."Like we say in the Marine Corps, 'Any Climb, Any Place.' We like to adapt to our environment and anything that is asked of us," Operation Chief Master Sgt. Juan Guillen said.Mesta described the mission at the Creek Fire as a lot of manual labor, "really hard dirty work with some long hours."Master Sgt. Guillen said Marines and Sailors wake up at 5:30 a.m., wash up, and go to a briefing. Then they head out around 7:30 a.m. and work the fire line until around 6:30 p.m. That's an 11 hour work day every day, with breaks to keep them safe."They're assessing any hot spots any areas that could potentially flare up." Master Sgt. Guillen said there is also a night shift that patrols with the same mission.Master Sgt. Guillen acknowledged how difficult the work is and said Marines and Sailors appreciate what firefighters do. He said one of the differences in this work is where the heavy backpack filled with supplies sits on your back as a firefighter. He said Marines are used to having a heavy pack that sits high up on the back. This versus what they use on the fire line, which is much lower, closer to the waist to allow for bending and work closer to the ground.During their deployment, containment of the fire jumped 22% to 44%, making a tangible difference that hits close to home."It's an honor to be back here and help out the community. I spent a lot of time up here camping near where the Creek Fire's at." Master Sgt. Guillen said he grew up in Fresno, his parents were migrant workers in the fields. He said he's thankful to see businesses nearby opening back up now that the fire's threat is dwindling."We're here to support as long as needed and the mindset of the Marines and Sailors that are out here is that mission accomplishment is our priority," he said. All of the Marines and Sailors at the Creek Fire volunteered for this mission. They do not have an end date to head back to Camp Pendleton. 2554
