LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A wellness center in La Mesa is accused of misleading patients by illegally marketing a breast cancer screening device, according to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).This week, the FDA issued a formal warning to Total Thermal Imaging Inc. and its president and co-owner, Linda Hayes, for illegally marketing and distributing an unapproved thermography device as a sole screening device for breast cancer and other diseases, according to a press release.Thermography is heat-sensitive imaging depicted in variations of color.10News spoke to San Diego's Susan G. Komen breast cancer awareness organization, which says thermography alone is not enough. “It can be used in addition to a mammogram or other screening tool that has been shown effective but there hasn't been any scientific evidence for thermography right now being a standalone tool,” says Lizzie Wittig, Director of Mission Initiatives and Public Policy.The FDA is demanding a response within 15 working days.No one at the clinic answered the door. 10News called and sent messages, and got this text reply: "Total Thermal Imaging Inc. is reviewing the warning letter from the FDA and developing a response. We will work with the agency to ensure our products comply with acceptable regulations." This isn't the first time that a clinic has gotten a warning letter about thermography. (KGTV) - Famed stage and screen actor John Leguizamo returns to the La Jolla Playhouse, this time behind the scenes as the co-writer and creative mind behind the new show, "Kiss My Aztec."This is Leguizamo's third show at the LJP. His previous two, "Latin History for Morons" and "Ghetto Klown" both went on to Broadway.But those were one-man shows; "Kiss My Aztec" is a full-size musical production."San Diego's always been great for me," Leguizamo told 10News while promoting the show. "It's a really well-trained theater audience that knows how to watch a work in progress.""Kiss My Aztec" tells the story of a group of Aztec rebels as they fight against Spanish colonization in the 16th century. It's a pretty heavy subject that deals with the loss of their culture, but Leguizamo shows it as a musical comedy and a love story."I felt like the Aztec conquest was ripe with musicality," he said."We're investigating Latin identity," said director Tony Taccone. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — This week, police say they arrested a La Mesa businessman, who was the subject of an inappropriate video posted online earlier this year, for violating a restraining order.La Mesa Police said Peter Carzis was arrested Tuesday and charged with violation of a domestic violence restraining order. Officers responded to the 8200 block of Lemon Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. for a report of a possible restraining order violation. Carzis was contacted by officers outside of an apartment complex.As part of an active restraining order, Carzis is ordered to stay 100 yards away from the protected party's address, police said. Officers found Carzis sitting outside of the residence.Last January, Carzis was captured on video allegedly committing a lewd act with a woman on the sidewalk outside his clothing store, Peter's Men's apparel on La Mesa Boulevard. The video was posted on a Facebook community page.When news crews returned to the area to speak with Carzis, he allegedly attacked news reporters and photographers who were attempting to interview him outside his business.Carzis has pleaded not guilty to felony vandalism charges and misdemeanor counts of battery and committing a lewd act in public. 1232

Las Vegas police said Monday the MS-13 gang has been responsible for 10 murders in the past year in Southern Nevada. Police said five suspects, including one juvenile, have been arrested in the murders after the last one occurred on March 2. The first one occurred in March of last year. The murders were linked through forensic evidence. The victims died of shooting and stabbing injuries. Six of the 10 victims were kidnapped before police said they were murdered on the outskirts of town. Sheriff Joe Lombardo called the suspects "extremely violent."The discovery of two bodies at Frenchman Mountain within a short period of time helped tip police off after the body was determined to be a MS-13 gang member. The victims have been identified as Daniel Clark, Richard Gaudio, Carlos Pachaca-Rodriguez, Arquimidez Sandoval-Martinez, Juan Carlos Estrada Raya, Jose Hernandez, Ricardo Olivas, Izzak Towery, Earl Ryan and Rony Fuentes.In addition to the ones near Frenchman Mountain, three of the murders occurred near Mount Charleston, while others occurred near Arville Street and Oakey Boulevard, Bonanza and Sandhill roads, Charleston and Nellis boulevards and Charleston Boulevard and Palm Street. 1248
