SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of a mother and daughter killed by a YouTuber in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 805 filed a lawsuit this week against the teenager’s estate, the City of San Diego, and the County of San Diego. Eighteen-year-old Trevor Heitmann, known as McSkillet, drove his McLaren the wrong way on the freeway in August 2018, killing Aileen Pizarro and her 12-year-old daughter Aryana. The sports car collided with the family’s SUV, which burst into flames. In their lawsuit, Aileen’s father Miguel Pizarro and son Dominic Pizarro cited the County and City for negligence resulting in death. The lawsuit cites an incident the day before the crash, during which the San Diego County Psychiatric Emergency Response Team responded to a call claiming Heitmann was “screaming, paranoid, and delusional”. A psychiatrist, Dr. Mary Rusher, told police she had evaluated Heitmann and he was “a danger to himself and to others and must be immediately detained on a California Welfare & Institutions Code 5150 hold,” the suit stated. Christian Ewing, 29, was charged for the death of 57-year-old Gregory Freeman, according to SDPD Homicide Lt. Anthony Dupree. Officers got a 911 call about an assault near the Interstate 5 overpass at 3900 Rosecrans St. the evening of Dec. 5. A witness said a victim was on the ground and another man was hitting him with an object, investigators reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Ten people were arrested in a suspected smuggling incident after border officials stopped a boat off the coast of Coronado this week.U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine agents say a boat was spotted just west of Coronado at about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Agents said the vessel was traveling from Mexican waters into U.S. territory.A crew was sent out to stop the suspected smuggling boat and 10 people were found aboard. The boat had been traveling without lights on and was spray painted black, according to agents.The individuals on the boat, all male Mexican citizens ages 18 to 55, were taken back to shore and turned over to Border Patrol, CBP said."It’s dangerous to travel on a crowded boat, out at sea, with no lights, and these smugglers took the added step of spray-painting the hull black so they would be difficult to spot at night," said Christopher Hunter, Deputy Director of Marine Operations for CBP in San Diego. In order to put this in perspective, let’s review what this seasonal change means.San Diegans typically associate El Ni?o with a wet winter, or more rain and a better water supply. However, El Ni?o is more than that.The National Weather Service defines El Ni?o as a recurring climate pattern involving changes in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. Warm and cool changes are associated with the ENSO cycle. El Ni?o and La Ni?a are extreme phases of the ENSO cycle, but there is a third phase, less well known, called the ENSO neutral. That third phase is where San Diego is headed for the rest of the year and possibly through the winter months. El Ni?o and La Ni?a have a greater impact during the winter months. La Ni?a doesn’t do much for winters in California; it typically keeps San Diego dry and warm. The opposite happens during El Ni?o, which explains why it’s so much more popular. El Ni?o brings an active Jet and more frequent storms, reducing our drought and helping our water supply, with cold driven storms and snow for the Sierra Nevada mountains. The neutral phase is where San Diego is headed this fall with a 55 percent chance of it sticking around through the winter. The ENSO neutral phase is neither cold like La Ni?a nor warm like El Ni?o. The ENSO neutral phase is associated with sea surface temperatures closer to average, and stronger winds near the equator. It typically keeps the coldest air over the Northeast, warmer temperatures through the southern portion of the country, and wetter through the Midwest and Northeast.The ENSO Neutral typically keeps San Diego warm and dry.
