Former prisoners are helping former prisoners break in to college courses.  The Urban Scholars Union is a relatively new organization created by ex-cons for ex-cons looking to better themselves through education. USU’s President Cesar Garcia said they started 18 months ago at San Diego City College to help “justice impacted” students succeed. “[We want to] empower them and motivate them to be productive members of society,” said Garcia. “We’re not monsters that they make us out to feel and make us out to be,” said San Diego City College student Ryan Rising. “We’re humans that made poor choices.” Rising spent 15 years behind bars for carjacking and attempted extortion but will matriculate to Cal Berkley on a scholarship after earning his Associate’s at City.“I’m super proud of myself,” he said. Garcia, who served seven years for a list of crimes, said the USU provides a space for former prisoners to get help, guidance, and support. The organization recently expanded to Southwestern College and is working on helping students at Mesa and Grossmont Colleges. USU also recently received its largest donation to date.  Current prisoners at Donovan Correctional in Otay Mesa donated ,000 to USU for scholarships and grants for former prisoners. “It just goes to show you how we do look out for each other,” said Garcia. “We just need go out and advocate to erase all these stigmas,” said Rising. 1470

Ford has sold cars for more than century. But it's embracing drones to broaden its mission for the future.In a blog post published late Wednesday, the company revealed it has a team in Silicon Valley researching how drones could fit into its business.The move is part of a greater effort to transition into a mobility company -- one that draws upon all elements of transportation, from cars and buses to bikes and now drones."As drone adoption accelerates, we think many of our customers will want to use these devices as part of their lifestyle, whether to pursue hobbies or even as a tool for their business," wrote Adi Singh, Ford's principal drone scientist.He expects drones to one day deliver packages and perhaps even people.However, specific plans for how Ford will incorporate drones into its business and vehicles hasn't yet been determined.Although it may seem like an unlikely move for the company, Ford has shown an interest in drones since 2016. In fact, it is also the only automaker to sit on the FAA's aviation rulemaking committee.But that's not to say Ford is the only car company to express the same interest. In 2016, Mercedes-Benz pledged to invest 0 million in delivery robots and drones. It previously demoed a prototype van that launched drones from its roof to make deliveries.Before automated drones deliver goods to our homes, governments will need to be convinced they're safe and trustworthy. FLORIDA — Police say former Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins player Richie Incognito was involved in a disturbance at a Lifetime Gym in Boca Raton, Florida on Wednesday morning.Police said Incognito was involuntarily committed under Florida's Baker Act. The act allows officials to apprehend and order a mental evaluation of a person.Incognito reportedly threw a dumbbell at a man at the gym and that's why police were called, according to TMZ.com.Incognito played for the Buffalo last season. In the buildup to the draft, he took a restructured contract with the Bills, publicly fired his agent on Twitter after that deal was signed, and retired shortly after that. The Bills officially added him to the reserve/retired list on April 12.Once Organized Team Activities started around the league, Incognito -- according to ESPN -- wanted to make a return to the NFL, despite retiring from the league and team just one month prior. The Bills granted his reported wish, releasing him off the reserve/retired list on Monday.The move officially made Incognito an unrestricted free agent, able to be signed by any other team. Ford is suspending production of the F-150 truck, its best-selling and most profitable vehicle, after a fire at a supplier's plant in Michigan last week.Ford announced that it will suspend production of the F-150 at its plant in Dearborn, Michigan on Wednesday night. It had already suspended truck production at a plant in Kansas City, Missouri. Those are the only plants that make the truck.A company spokesperson said he doesn't know when production will begin again.
