President Trump has signed the Music Modernization Act into law, a bill that will bring sweeping changes to the way music is licensed and songwriters are paid.Supporters say the Music Modernization Act, championed by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee), will ensure that songwriters get paid fairly for their work in the streaming age.  A key aspect of the legislation is the creation of a new independent entity that will license songs to companies that play music online. The group will then pay songwriters, while digital streaming services, like Spotify or Pandora, can ask for a blanket license. This is the first overhaul to music copyright law in decades. The law will also make sure artists who made music prior to 1972 are paid.Recording artists didn't have any copyright rights in their works until 1972. Kanye West, Kid Rock and John Rich are among artists expected to attend Thursday's ceremony at the White House.   965

President Donald Trump's re-election campaign used a photo of a survivor of the Parkland, Florida, shooting in an email Saturday that asks its recipients to donate money to the campaign.The email contains a photo of 17-year-old Madeleine Wilford in a hospital bed surrounded by her family, Trump and the first lady. Publix has announced they have purchased then donated more than 5 million pounds of produce and 350,000 gallons of milk to food banks across the southeast.The supermarket chain said in a press release that the initiative, which was launched back in April, was set up to support local farmers and help feed families through the Feeding America member food bank.“During these challenging times, we remain committed to working together to find the solutions that positively impact our communities in need, Publix CEO Todd Jones said in the release. "We are honored to continue our support of Feeding America member food banks and to purchase produce and milk from farmers across the Southeast. As the harvest season moves north, so is our initiative, expanding to support additional farmers and serve as many people as possible.”The company said they have purchased producers from farmers in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina and will start working with farmers in Tennessee and Virginia in the coming weeks.During the pandemic, the grocery chain said they had donated million to Feeding America and its member food banks. 1149

President Donald Trump's former attorney and "fixer" Michael Cohen said he is "done being loyal" to his former boss and admitted that he knew what he was "doing was wrong" when he arranged payments during the 2016 election to silence women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump."I'm done with the lying," Cohen said in an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos that aired Friday. "I'm done being loyal to President Trump.
