Just when stores started filling their toilet paper shelves again, other items are suddenly in short supply. Most of them have nothing to do with cleaning. You'll recall that first it was hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes that became impossible to find back in February — which feels like it was three years ago in the time-dilated Twilight Zone of 2020.March arrived with face mask and toilet paper shortages, and cleaning sprays and products disappeared from store shelves.April brought the first shortages of beef, chicken and pork as processing plants shut down.As those items get restocked, other wells are running dry.Newer items that are getting hard to findBike shops across the country have been so busy during the pandemic that it's almost 758

IRVING, Texas – A cable man is accused of stabbing an 83-year-old woman to death in her Texas home. Officers with the Irving Police Department found the woman, Betty Thomas, dead in her home at about 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12. “Upon arrival, officers discovered 83-year-old Betty Thomas deceased from multiple stab wounds,” said Media Relations Officer Robert Reeves. The next day, police say they arrested 43-year-old Roy James Holden Jr. in Mesquite, Texas, and charged him with capital murder in connection with Thomas’ death. “We do know that the suspect worked for a utility service provider and that is how he knew Miss Thomas,” said Reeves. Holden worked as a cable installer for Spectrum, but he was off duty at the time of the crime and has since been terminated, WTVT reports. In a 806
If you have filled up your vehicle's gas tank in recent days, you probably paid more than you did last month per gallon for gas. Throughout the United States, gas prices are on the rise with no dip in sight. According to AAA figures, the average national price for a gallon of gas is .76. The price of gas is up 30 cents a gallon over the last month. Drivers in California have particularly seen a large increase. Prices there have increased by 55 cents to .87 per gallon. AAA says that unexpected and planned maintenance have contributed to an increase in fuel prices.Gas prices are also up 10 cents from this time last year. Summertime gas prices peaked at nearly a gallon last summer. In some regions, gas prices can jump without any notice. In Indianapolis, drivers reported a 30 cent increase at the same stations on Wednesday. 850
James Holzhauer, a 34-year-old professional gambler from Las Vegas, obliterated the all-time single-day record on the quiz show "Jeopardy!," earning 0,914 on Tuesday. Holzhauer, harking back to his profession, used a trio of huge bets en route to the all-time record. The previous record Jeopardy! single-game record was ,000 set by Roger Craig in 2010.“I said all along that I wanted to break Roger Craig’s one-game record and I did it,” Holzhauer said.Earning 0,914 was significant to Holzhauer, whose daughter was born November 9, 2014 (11/09/14).Holzhauer drew some gasps from the audience by calling for a true Daily Double early in Double Jeopardy. He was able to double his earnings to ,200. Later in Double Jeopardy, he wagered ,000 in the other Daily Double.Going into Final Jeopardy with ,600 -- a lead of ,600 -- Holzhauer wagered ,314, and answered correctly in the category "physics terms." Holzhauer won by more than ,000.After winning just four episodes with total winnings of 4,365, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek was already making a dubious comparison. “Is it too soon to make Ken Jennings comparisons," Trebek remarked at the end of the episode. Jennings set the Jeopardy record of winning 74 consecutive episodes. 1272
