SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The City of San Diego began a virtual open house Monday to solicit public input for two potential uses for a vacant lot in the Encanto community.The city is asking the public to consider two redevelopment proposals for the Valencia Business Park located at Stevens Way and Imperial Avenue.Located in the federally designated San Diego Promise Zone, the Valencia Business Park has been vacant for more than 20 years. According to the city, the community-focused redevelopment is moving forward and expected to create at least 72 full-time jobs."For years, the vision for Southeastern San Diego has included activating the Imperial Avenue Corridor and development of the Valencia Business Park property," said Councilwoman Monica Montgomery Steppe. "We are energized to take another crucial step in this process and get vital input from our community on this redevelopment, as we see this vision come to fruition."The first proposal is a campus for the San Diego American Indian Health Center, described as a "wellness-centered community hub" that would account for 150 healthcare jobs, including 75 new ones.The other proposal is the San Diego Energy Equity Campus, a community hub site which proposes to provide educational resources to the underserved Southeast San Diego community.The public can view the proposals and provide feedback by visiting ValenciaBusinessParkInput.org. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Gas & Electric announced Wednesday that ratepayers will once again have the opportunity to reduce their monthly bill by driving an electric vehicle.SDG&E has made the promotion available to electric vehicle drivers for the last two years in an effort to combat the effects of climate change and reduce the county's collective carbon footprint. The county's roughly 35,000 plug-in electric vehicle drivers can apply for the credit, administered by the California Air Resources Board, though May 31.Last year's Electric Vehicle Climate Credit was 0 for each of the roughly 15,000 residents who applied. In 2017, about 7,000 residents received credits of roughly 0 each.SDG&E also offers time-of-use charging plans for electric vehicles when residents pay a monthly service fee of . SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Reversing a vote from last week, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Monday approved four satellite voting offices ahead of the March primary election, over the fierce objections of one member. The vote was 3-1. Supervisors Greg Cox, Nathan Fletcher and Dianne Jacob were in favor, while Supervisor Jim Desmond was opposed. Supervisor Kristin Gaspar left the chamber before the board voted, after saying she was ``being asked to revisit a vote that we have already made, to overturn the will of this board.'' She also said that this morning's special meeting was planned by three members of the board, and that neither she nor Desmond were asked to attend. Jacob, who chairs the board and requested the special meeting, did not offer a formal response to Gaspar's allegation. The satellite voting office proposal stemmed in part from state legislation, recently signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, that allows Californians to register to vote on election day at local polling places and voting centers. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police arrested a domestic violence suspect Friday morning after a standoff in La Mesa that temporarily blocked access to parts of Grossmont Center. The La Mesa and San Diego police departments responded to the situation at Grossmont Center Drive and Center Drive just before 8 a.m. Both streets were closed as officers worked to detain the suspect, La Mesa Police reported in a tweet.The situation started Thursday night when police received a call from the victim, saying she was choked by her ex-boyfriend at a residence on the 6800 block of Hyde Park Drive, San Diego police said.Police responded about 7:20 p.m. but the suspect already had fled in the girlfriend's car. Officers took a crime report and the victim was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa as a precautionary measure.The suspect returned to the residence this morning and the victim called the police again, according to SDPD. The suspect then drove to Grossmont Center, where police found him around 7:30 a.m. The suspect was arrested at 8:19 a.m. and taken into custody.The streets in the area were reopened around 8:30 a.m., SDPD said. 1145
