Four people were killed and six more wounded when “unknown suspects” sneaked into a backyard filled with people at a party in central California and fired into the crowd, police said.The shooting took place about 6 p.m. on the Fresno’s southeast side, where people were gathered to watch a football game, Fresno Police Lt. Bill Dooley said.Deputy Chief Michael Reid told the Fresno Bee and the KSEE/KGPE TV stations that a total of 10 people were shot, with three found dead in the backyard. A fourth person died at the hospital. Six others are expected to survive and are recovering at the hospital.All the victims were Asian men ranging from ages 25 to 35, Reid said.“What we do know is that this was a gathering, a family and friend gathering in the backyard,” Dooley said. “Everyone was watching football this evening when unknown suspects approached the residence, snuck into the backyard and opened fire.”The victims were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition, and some are now stable, the TV stations reported.About 35 people were at the party when the shooting began, Reid said.“Thank God that no kids were hurt,” he said.No one is in custody in connection with the shooting. Four Michigan teens who pleaded guilty to throwing a rock off a highway overpass that killed a man were sentenced as adults in a Michigan courtroom on Tuesday.They were ages 15 to 17 when they threw rocks onto I-75 in October 2017 in Genesee County. They called it "overpassing." A six-pound rock went through the windshield of 32-year-old Kenneth White's car as he was driving, killing him. The teens were initially charged with charged with second-degree murder but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter. They were being held in juvenile detention."The injuries are horrific. ... I gasped out (when I saw them)" Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said during the teens' trial in 2017.Genesee County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Farah sentenced Alexander Miller, Trevor Gray, Mikadyn Payne and Mark Sekelski to adult prison, rejecting their defense attorneys’ arguments they should be sentenced as juveniles.The judge gave them until Aug. 20 to withdraw their pleas. Their defense attorneys outside of court called the sentence emotional and political.The mother of the victim, Teresa Simpson, applauded the sentence in court and later said her son, “gets the justice he deserves. He’s happy now. He can rest.”The case pointed to the fifth teen, Kyle Anger, who was 18 at the time of the incident, as the one who planned the prank. He loaded up his pickup with rocks and threw the rock that killed White. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and faces several more years in prison when he is sentenced at a later date.Leyton said he didn't think the boys intended to kill anyone when they threw the rocks."I don't think they said, 'OK, we're going to kill Kenneth White when he comes hurtling down the road," Leyton said. That's up about 7% from last year.A new survey form career website Monster found 60% of employees look forward to holiday parties. “It’s not a jail sentence,” said Monster career expert Vick Salemi. “It should be a fun party that you keep the professional scope top of mind.”Salemi says if you're considering skipping, instead treat it like a meeting. Go early and take advantage of face time with colleagues or bosses you don't normally get to interact with.“Think of it like I’m going to come prepared with two or three of my top wins and accomplishments this past year and I’m going to humble brag my way when I talk to my boss and my boss’ boss,” said Salemi.One thing you don't want to do is overindulge on alcohol if it's being served.About 14% of employees said they had regrets about drinking too much at a holiday party.Salemi says here's how you can recover:“You can just say I apologize if I offended anyone or I drank way too much I don’t remember much of the night.
