SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Lego fans will have more to look forward to in 2019, as Legoland California plans new attractions in celebration of its 20th birthday.Among one of the park's 2019 offerings: Free admission for kids 12 and under on their birthday, starting in January."Having a chance to reflect on the last 20 years ahead of next year’s birthday celebration, it’s incredible to think about all we’ve accomplished during that time and the amount of kids we positively impacted through their experiences at the Resort," said park General Manager Peter Ronchetti.RELATED: Southern California theme parks ring in the holiday seasonAmong the new additions for 2019, Legoland said it plans to add new attractions and live shows for visitors to experience.One new addition will be a new attraction inspired by "The Lego Movie." The park will host special "Lego Movie" festivities from Feb. 16 - 17 and 23 - 24 around the park ahead of the attraction's opening.The park's resort is also getting a special zone geared toward toddlers modeled after Duplo. The play town will add an express train in the park and kids will be able to ride, slide, and hide in the interactive area.Also being added is a "Lego 4D-Officer in Pursuit" film that will play at the park's theater and new live character shows at the Miniland Stage.It's not exactly clear when the new additions would be opened to guests in 2019. 1458

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Kristi's a full-time 5th grade teacher and her sister, Heather, is the director of compliance and relations at San Diego State, Heather also runs a small tattoo removal business on the side.When COVID came around, the sisters added even more to their plate."We're both born entrepreneurs and always are thinking about solutions," says Heather.While Heather was creating a COVID training guide for her employees as her small business prepared to reopen, the sisters stumbled upon an idea that could help small business owners navigate some of their own challenges."We started brainstorming and began to go through pieces, did the research and provided a training for her employees and thought,'oh my gosh, if she needs this everyone's going to need this,'" Kristi recalled. That's when Small Business Employee Training was born. Their safety course takes in-depth COVID-19 information, along with CDC guidelines and regulations, and transforms it all into a 30-minute safety course for employees. "In the state of COVID, there was a lot of fear and anxiety around going back to work. How does that happen, what are the requirements," Kristi said.Since the course have became available, over 300 employees have taken the course through their employers."The goal is an employee would enter the workplace, go through a training, and understand what COVID is and how to keep themselves and other safe in the workplace."The course is only and employees receive a certificate of completion afterwards. 1526

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Large churches throughout San Diego are scaling down services in an effort to control the spread of the novel coronavirus. Miles McPherson, Senior Pastor of The Rock Church, says they normally get 12 to 13 thousand people who attend services at their seven campuses. Now, attendees who show up for worship won’t be allowed inside. A message sent out to members let them know about the change. RELATED: What's the difference? However, we are still going to have church and it’s going to be awesome,” McPherson said. “Here’s what’s going to happen. On Sunday at our normal times – 8, 10, 12, and 6, we will be broadcasting all of our services online on all of our platforms,” he added. McPherson also said church staff are taking precautions for those inside by sanitizing surfaces and not shaking hands. The Rock Church isn’t the only religious organization making changes amid COVID-19. The Diocese adds that churches will remain open for parishioners who want to pray and seek spiritual assistance. It’s unclear how long Mass will be cancelled. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Kevin Luo of Pacific Trails Middle School is getting ready for his trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.Luo, who is a student at Pacific Trails Middle School, was crowned the winner of the countywide spelling bee in March.
