Toyota cars and SUVs with push-button ignitions will now turn themselves off after being parked for a period of time, even if the driver didn't hit the "Engine Off" button.Cars that can be left running for hours, even after the driver has left the vehicle, have been blamed for deaths. Since 2006, a total of 37 people have died and 80 have been injured by carbon monoxide gas after drivers left vehicles with push-button ignitions running in the garage, according to the organization KidsAndCars.org. Toyota and Lexus vehicles were involved in almost half of those incidents, a spokeswoman for the organization said. Lexus is Toyota's luxury division.Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can cause permanent brain damage or death. When a garage is connected to the house, it can seep into the home if a car's engine is left running.Toyota will add the engine shut-off feature to most of its 2020 model year vehicles. The company would not comment on whether past incidents had any bearing on the company's decision to add the feature. Toyota said the keyless ignition systems in its cars today meet or exceed all relevant federal safety standards. This sort of mistake is especially easy to make in hybrid vehicles, since the gasoline engine in a hybrid often doesn't run when the vehicle is not moving. That can make it hard to tell if the car has been shut off. If it hasn't, the gasoline engine will start up after a short while as the car's batteries begin to lose charge. It can even happen in non-hybrid vehicles, since many cars today have very quiet engines that are nearly inaudible at idle.Keyless ignitions allow drivers to start their cars with the press of a button, as long as the remote key fob is with them inside the vehicle. This feature has been offered in the US market since the early 2000s and is now very common on new cars. Many new car models don't even offer the option of an ignition with keys."The shut-off feature is extremely important because we're human and when the way we turn on and off our vehicles has changed so dramatically, new safety features are necessary" said Janette Fennell, founder of KidsAndCars.org,a national child safety organization. The company would not say how long the engine could be left on before automatically shutting off.Toyota will also add more noticeable warning sounds and visual alerts to its new models to ensure drivers are aware that the engine is turned on as they leave the vehicle, the automaker said. In the future, drivers will also have the option of being alerted through a smartphone app that the car is still on.Toyota vehicles have had "engine on" warnings since 2003, the automaker said in its announcement. These new warnings will be "enhanced" with the louder audible alerts. Fennel also applauded Toyota's decision to make it easier for drivers to tell when the car is running.Toyota will also add features to some vehicles that will automatically shift it into park when the vehicle is turned off. This system will be available only on vehicles with electronic gear selectors rather than mechanical levers.Other automakers have automatic engine shut-off in keyless ignition vehicles but not all do. In 2015, General Motors recalled the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid to add the feature after the company became aware of two carbon monoxide incidents caused by people leaving the cars turned on.Toyota has no current plans to add these features to earlier models, a spokeswoman said. 3489
There’s a lot of money in marijuana, and a lot of dispensaries only deal with cash. “We do around ,000 to ,000 thousand a week,” says Andrew Jones, manager of Nature’s Herbs in Denver. When you do the math, this Denver-based dispensary is handling more than ,000,000 a year, and all of it is cold hard cash. “It’s a billion-dollar industry, and there’s so many moving parts,” Jones says. Moving that amount of money is one of the biggest challenges for dispensaries around the country. Marijuana is still illegal under federal law, which means a lot of dispensaries can’t open accounts with traditional banks. Instead, many dispensaries are now hiring specialized companies to move their money somewhere safe.“Our background is former law enforcement. Former military," says John DeLue of Helix TCS, a security company specializing in the cannabis industry. "We’re trained in transport procedures."DeLue has gone from busting people for weed as a deputy sheriff to now making a living transporting it. “You were taught as a cop that weed was bad and marijuana was bad and you shouldn’t have anything to do with it,” he says. “And then we left law enforcement and started in the weed industry. So, it’s been a huge change.”DeLue says his team uses armed security guards to take pot and money from pot sales to an armored truck. They then drive it to wherever the dispensaries owners want it, including private vaults. “We’ve grown four-or-five-fold since we started in 2015,” he says. “We went from a few hundred thousand dollars a year in revenue to now around .5 to .5 million in revenue.”And as more states legalize marijuana, more people might soon be using these services. 1701

Tiger Woods clinched his fifth Masters and 15th major title to seal one of the greatest comeback stories in sport after overcoming career-threatening back problems. The 43-year-old muscled his way through a tightly packed leaderboard to win by two shots at Augusta for his first major title in 11 years and first Masters win since 2005.It completes a fairytale return for the most dominant player of his generation -- and arguably the best ever -- after enduring "dark times" through injury since 2014.Woods underwent career-saving spine fusion surgery in 2017 and sealed an impressive comeback season last year with his first win for five years.Sunday's thrilling victory puts the former world No.1 just three majors behind the all-time record of Jack Nicklaus.Only fellow American Nicklaus has won more Masters, with six. Woods also joins Nicklaus as the only player to have won the Masters in three different decades after he clinched his first as a 21-year-old in 1997.Woods began the day two shots behind Italy's Francesco Molinari, and rode the roller coaster of a gripping final round to first share the lead after the Italian found the water in front of the short 12th.Two holes later five players were tied at the top, but Woods' birdie on the long 15th took him clear on his own. Another birdie on the short 16th ignited thunderous roars which reverberated around the towering pines as Woods marched off with a two-shot lead and a thousand-yard stare in scenes reminiscent of his heyday.Sporting a red mock turtleneck in a nod to his last win at Augusta in 2005, and chewing gum throughout, Woods maintained his cushion to edge world No.2 Dustin Johnson, three-time major champion Brooks Koepka and another American Xander Schauffele. When the winning putt dropped, Woods clenched his fist and punched the air to tumultuous applause, watched from behind the 18th green by his mother Kutilda, children Sam and Charlie, and girlfriend Erica Herman. 1966
