(CNN) -- The White House and Capitol Hill is considering a phone app connected to the National Instant Criminal Background Checks (NICS) as one of the options in their discussions for plans to reduce gun violence, according to a Senate source and a person familiar with the talks.The proposed app would be used for background checks using private sales, and not for purchases involving commercial dealers, one of the sources told CNN. The Washington Post first reported on the app.White House aides have spent the last month meeting with congressional staffers and devising a package of legislative measures in the wake of recent mass shootings. The Department of Justice also prepared a package of options that was delivered to the White House more than two weeks ago.On Thursday, senior advisers presented President Donald Trump with summaries of the various courses of action on gun violence.During the briefing, officials did not delve into legislative details and Trump did not appear interested in some of the nitty-gritty of how each proposal would work, the person familiar said.Trump, who has been facing pressure from Republican lawmakers to specify his stance, emerged from the meeting, declining to clarify his position on expanding background checks.Separately, the source told CNN the lack of clarify is leading to doubts Trump will back a bipartisan measure on expanded background checks from Democratic Sen. (CNN) -- The US believes late al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden's son Hamza bin Laden is dead, a US official told CNN on Wednesday.The official said the US had a role in his death but did not provide details. The official added that the US government recently received evidence that it believes corroborates his death.The New York Times reported that Hamza bin Laden had been killed in an operation within the last two years.Earlier this year the US State Department called bin Laden, who is believed to be in his early 30s, an "emerging" leader in the terror group al Qaeda, offering a million-dollar reward for information leading to his capture.The New York Times, citing two US officials, said "the United States government had a role in the operation that killed the younger Mr. bin Laden, but it was not clear precisely what that role was."CNN terrorism analyst Paul Cruickshank said one thing is puzzling researchers who are closely tracking al Qaeda: "If Hamza bin Laden has indeed been dead for months, you would expect al Qaeda to have released some form of eulogy before today. (KGTV) — An Idaho school district is investigating a school's teachers and staff after photos surfaced on social media showing them dressed as a border wall.Photos posted to Facebook showed teachers from Middleton Heights Elementary School dressed holding cardboard painted to look like a border wall, with the phrase "Make America Great Again."In another photo, staffers dressed in sombreros, ponchos, and fake mustaches.RELATED: Olympian Shaun White apologizes for offensive Halloween costumeBoth photos, posted to Middleton Heights's Facebook page, drew scorn online, forcing the school to remove the pictures, according to KTVB.Superintendent Josh Middleton posted a video to Facebook apologizing to parents and expressing his disappointment."I was shown those photos and [was] deeply troubled by the decision by our staff members to wear those costumes that are clearly insensitive and inappropriate," Middleton said. "We are better than this. We embrace all students. We have a responsibility to teach and reach all students, period."Our time right now is going to be devoted to investigating those events and those poor decisions that were made," Middleton added.It's unclear what type of disciplinary actions the teachers and staff face. (KGTV) -- A strong warning from the mother of a La Jolla teenager injured in a deadly car crash on the way to Coachella.10News spoke with Eva Cerciello at the hospital where her daughter is recovering. Doctors have taken out her feeding tube and she is now awake.Sadly, her cousin was killed in the crash while the driver walked away with minor injuries. Cerciello says she’s been relying on prayers and positive thinking for strength.As more San Diegans head to Indio for weekend two of the Coachella music festival,Cerciello has a harsh warning that they shouldn’t put themselves in danger.She nearly lost her daughter last week. “She's like a miracle,” Cerciello said. Manuela Cerciello-Rahbari, 16, suffered severe brain damage when the BMW she was in with her cousin and a friend who was driving veered off the road.They slammed into two trees on I-10, 40 miles away from the festival. “Their main goal was to be there at 7 a.m.,” Cerciello said.They left around 3 a.m., but never made it. “The driver fell asleep while driving. They were both asleep, my niece and my daughter,” she said.Cerciello says she even called to warn them. “If you're tired, you need to stop. You don't keep on going,” she said. “You can’t challenge your body.”Their car was part of a caravan with friends and Cerciello feels peer pressure played a deadly role. “I know the kids were texting ‘speed up, speed up’ because we have all the messages.” Now, she's passing along her own message to other parents and their children.“Parents, they think ‘Don't drink. Don't drive. Don't do drugs…and everything will be fine.’ No, not everything will be fine,” Cerciello said.To be clear.. no drugs or alcohol were involved the crash, but she just wants people to see the reality of poor-decision making-- and says be smart.“You will never have the same life again. Never. Never. Because even if physically you are ok, psychologically you will never be the same.”While Cerciello knows her daughter's future is unclear... “I need to be strong. If I'm not strong, who's gonna be strong?”She doesn't want anyone else to experience her pain. "[If] I can help even one person, I’m good with that.” It’s is an eerily familiar situation for Cerciello.Four and half years ago, her son, Carlo, was also in a major accident and suffered brain damage.He is still in physical therapy today.In the meantime, the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for medical expenses as well as research for brain injuries.
