She had to think quickly when she realized the brakes were cut Tuesday night in Pacific Beach. "My option was either to jump off the scooter or to just roll with it into traffic," said Mary Adamcyk. Adamcyk says she rides electric scooters all the time. Tuesday night, it didn't end well. "I was really freaked out because there were two cars coming towards me."So, she decided to jump. "I just kind of went flying, I mean, I jumped off, I fell to my knees, my cell phone went flying," said Adamcyk. "I had holes just torn into both of my knees, they got cut up. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A suspected DUI driver overturned his car while speeding in the East Village, sending a passenger flying from the vehicle and facing life-threatening injuries.A 23-year-old man was driving a 2004 Toyota Prius "at a high rate of speed" eastbound on Market St. just before midnight Friday, according to San Diego Police. As he turned left to continue northbound on 7th Ave., he struck the curb and his Toyota overturned.A 24-year-old man sitting in the passenger's seat was ejected from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries, including a crushed pelvis and internal bleeding. They were in critical condition Saturday morning, according to police.The driver suffered a laceration to his forehead, police said.Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. 795
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An elderly Army veteran is warning others after he was brutally attacked while riding his mobility scooter in North Park.Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, 81-year-old Phil Severns was headed to a grocery store on the scooter when it happened."I just felt a sharp blow on the right side of my head. It almost knocked me out ... My glasses came off and were broken, and my head hurt terribly," said Severns.Severns says he turned around and saw two concerned women who described his attacker. He looked and saw a man on the run a block away, described as a black man in his mid-20s with long hair, a lean build, and blue shirt and shorts.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodAt that moment, Severns says he kept thinking that he had to find out who did it. Severns decided to go after him, following him into a nearby CVS Pharmacy parking lot, where he found the man swinging a sock that appeared to be filled with rocks."Confronted him and asked him why he hit me," said Severns.The answer? A claim that Severns had hit him first, which Severns calls untrue. Before the man took off, there was more odd behavior. "Just walking in circles and waving that sock," said Severns.It appears he wasn't done.
