EVANSTON, Ill. – If you drive too fast, you could miss it. But a chance turn into one alley just north of Chicago will transport you into a drive-thru art gallery. “I wanted to take this place this alley which is just ugly or lackluster and make it into something special,” explained Teresa Parod. The Evanston, Illinois-based painter and artist is the person behind several vibrant garage door murals. From floral motifs to interplanetary themes, her goal she says is to uplift people through her painting. “I want all my public art to be positive because no one who walks down this alley… most didn't ask me to paint this,” she said. “So, I don't want them to come and see some something that is very negative or makes them feel unhappy.” The canvases range from one-and-a-half to two car garage doors. She only charges for material. The medium: house paint. “What I really like is when people come who are not in the neighborhood and they're just riding their bikes or walking dog and they're like well what is this? And it's something special,” said Parod. The artist started with her own door, concerned with how her neighbors might respond. “This is my own garage. And I thought it would be fun to put the front of my house on my garage,” she said. But many have embraced transforming the back alley into a gallery of vibrant, public works of art. Neighbor Judy Slagle saw the work and just had to have her garage door painted as well. Hers is a collection of brightly colored sunflowers. “When I came home especially in the winter like it is now, I wanted to come home and have something that would make me smile and other people I hope too,” said Slagle For an enhanced experience, Parod’s husband Bill, a sound artist and software developer, is creating an augmented reality app. Virtual birds can be seen on the screen interacting with the paintings. He is designing customized vignettes for each door. “So that we could walk to them and you could hear something in 3D and walk around and the birds and so on could fly around,” he explained. The doors are now in high demand. “Everybody started asking me to do them and I have a waiting list,” said Parod. “So, I hope to do the whole alley and I hope to do more alleys.” And while Parod may see the world as her canvas, this time it’s right up her alley. 2346

Living in a world where business revolves around technology, cybersecurity has become a more common issue. Studies show the greatest risk for a data breach is employee negligence. “Somewhere between 85 and 95 percent of successful attacks on organizations now stem from phishing,” cybersecurity expert Ross Jordan said. Ross Jordan with High Touch Technologies says phishing is a way for foreign groups or companies to gain private information from a company by targeting the employee usually through email. Scammers have become advanced enough to appear as a person or organization you trust asking for your password or credit card number. “Phishing is something that’s usually sent out by bots. Literally just blasted out to hundreds if not thousands of emails at a time. And they’re hoping for that one na?ve person to follow the link, and when they do, you’re literally opening the doors to the kingdom,” Jordan said. Employees are often tricked because the email contains a reactionary ask telling somebody they need to share personal information right away. “They’re taking advantage of our human nature. And when somebody needs your help, and somebody needs an action from you, you want to respond, you want to do something,” Jordan said. According to Jordan, the best way to prevent these attacks is to train your employees. Commercial General Contractor, Pinkard Construction, is one company leading by example. Technology Manager Eric Schmeer says models that used to be on paper have now become fully digitized using laser scanners, drones and 360 degree cameras. “All of these devices, all this information, it’s all computerized, it’s all digital, it’s all connected to the internet. And so when you’re running these multi-million dollar projects and all that information is digital, it’s really, really important to protect it,” Schmeer said. For that reason, Pinkard Construction takes time to educate its employees on what an attack could look like. “Teach people just the fundamentals about how to analyze an email, and determine whether it looks phishy or not. And what to do when they’re not sure about links and whether they should click them, and how to figure out where they go,” Schmeer said. The company also fosters an environment where employees are encouraged to come forward with questions. “Nobody is ever hesitant to forward an entire technology team here and say ‘Hey is this legitimate? Can I click this link? What’s gonna happen here?’” Knowing you could be just one click away from killing your company, it’s always OK to ask for help. “Just ask. It’s very simple. AURORA, Colo. -- Just as hundreds of restaurants are being forced to close down indoor dining, yet again, In-N-Out Burger made its debut in Colorado on Friday.Hundreds waited in line for hours to get a burger from the California-based fast-food chain.“It’s just a journey today,” said Charly, who came to relieve her dad who waited for three hours, but then had to go to work without making it to the front of the line.“Three or four hours wasn’t unexpected,” said Bob Fischer. “So, it’s definitely worth the wait.”Whether it was worth the wait depends on who you asked.But is it worth it? “No,” said Charly. “I don’t even eat beef. I’m just here for (my sister) and my dad.”In-N-Out’s arrival in Colorado comes at the most ill-timed or opportune moment, depending on your perspective.“I ordered about five cheeseburgers and five animal fries,” said one In-N-Out fan who did not wish to be identified. “It’s all about the uniqueness of the secret menu,” Fischer said.“I grew up in California, so we were always eating it,” said Maddie Duncan.Just around the corner, at the mom-and-pop NGL Burgers, owner Jesus Pulido is preparing to close to indoor dining yet again.“Tomorrow it’s back to take-out only or I can put some tables outside,” Pulido said.After 16 years in business in Aurora, Pulido, who’s also from California, certainly has his fans, too.“The food speaks for itself,” said an NGL regular named Zeke.“I grew up in L.A. There’s char-broiled burger places everywhere,” said Juan Lopez. “And this is exactly the same way.”Lopez says Pulido’s prices are right on the money.“If you’re going to let me pick for lunch, I’m going to come here because this is a better deal,” Lopez said.The question is – what kind of dent will In-N-Out, coupled with another COVID-19 shutdown put in Pulido’s business.He, for one, believes he will survive.“In-N-Out, that’s going to hurt me a little bit, you know?
