SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County Vector Control officials reported new signs Friday of the potentially dangerous disease tularemia on a trail in Sorrento Valley.Several batches of ticks trapped along Lopez Canyon Trail tested positive for the disease, also known as rabbit fever.The first group of ticks with the disease appeared last week, officials said.County officials posted warning signs for hikers. Vector Control will also expand tick trapping in the area.The best way for people to protect themselves from tick bites include insect repellent for humans and pets, and long-sleeved shirts and pants.Tularemia can be treated with antibiotics but it can be fatal. 679

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric customers won’t have to pay millions in wildfire costs tied to the company, according to a new U.S. Supreme Court ruling. The court Monday rejected the utility’s appeal to pass 9 million on to rate-payers. The costs are related to the deadly 2007 wildfires that tore through San Diego County. Investigators say SDG&E equipment sparked the Witch Guejito and Race Fires. The company has denied the claims and says the fires were caused by other factors. The ruling comes roughly a week after SDG&E asked the Public Utilities Commission to raise the bare minimum bill from to per month. The utility claims the change is needed to accurately reflect the costs of keeping low-use customers to the grid. The move would affect anyone whose bill is less than per month. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are asking for the public’s help locating a man suspected of threatening a Target employee with a razor during a robbery.Police say the incident happened around 10 a.m. on March 25 at the Target on the 1200 block of Camino Del Rio North.According to police, a loss prevention officer noticed a man inside the store he recognized from previous encounters.Police say the man grabbed three memory cards and attempted to remove them from their cases.After removing one of the memory cards and placing it in his pocket, the man was confronted by the officer who followed him to the exit.The suspect then threatened the officer with a folding razor knife he removed from his waistband.The suspect is described as a six-foot tall 28-year-old white male wearing a tan colored long-sleeve dress shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2299. 951

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Wednesday that a record number of potholes have been filled in the city in 2019.An average year sees 32,000 potholes filled, but Wednesday crews filled pothole number 49,000. This year the city tripled the number of pothole repair teams and extended their hours to include nights and weekends. Matt Sinclaire lives on Georgia Street in University Heights, however, and showed 10News a doorknob flier that was left at homes on his block last week announcing that street would be repaved this week. Curiously, the no parking signs were pulled Friday, he says, and the job, he was told, was canceled. Wednesday, that announcement from the mayor was held, and two potholes were repaired directly in front of Sinclaire's home. "This whole thing pissed me off," says Sinclaire. "We waited this long and finally we were going to see our street paved... but we have a nice shiny little black square that's going to probably be good for the next year." Deputy City of San Diego Chief Operating Officer Johnnie Perkins told 10News the project was postponed, not canceled, due to the subcontractor's staffing issues. There was a miscommunication and the contractor gave neighbors bad information about a cancellation, Perkins said.
