The Department of Justice on Monday filed complaints against 11 individuals believed to be members of the?Central American migrant caravan, accusing them of illegally entering the United States. After a month-long journey by bus, train and on foot, about 100 migrants arrived at the San Ysidro port of entry on the US-Mexico border on Sunday evening, preparing to claim asylum. About 20 to 30 migrants spent the night inside an immigration processing center in Tijuana, Mexico. An organizer of the caravan vowed they would remain at the immigration processing center until "every last one" is admitted into the United States. Two Salvadorans, six Hondurans, and three Guatemalans face charges, a federal law enforcement official told CNN.Ten of them face a misdemeanor charge for allegedly entering the US illegally. Another individual is alleged to have entered the country after they were previously deported, and faces a felony charge. The probable cause statement alleges many of those charged were seen in an area known as Goat Canyon, about 4 miles to the west of the San Ysidro port of entry, on the US side of the border, the official said. Others were seen on the US side of the border about 2 miles west of San Ysidro in an area known as "W-8." 1263
The E.W. Scripps Company is a partner with The Associated Press and has been following guidance from their election desk on 2020 race updates.Below is the AP's explanation as to why they have not declared a winner in Georgia and why they declared Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden the winner in Michigan and Wisconsin.WISCONSINThe AP called Wisconsin for Democrat Joe Biden after election officials in the state said all outstanding ballots had been counted, except for a few hundred in one township and an expected small number of provisional ballots. Trump’s campaign has requested a recount. Statewide recounts in Wisconsin have historically changed the vote tally by only a few hundred votes; Biden leads by .624 percentage points out of nearly 3.3 million ballots counted.“Despite ridiculous public polling used as a voter suppression tactic, Wisconsin has been a razor-thin race as we always knew that it would be," Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said in a statement. "There have been reports of irregularities in several Wisconsin counties which raise serious doubts about the validity of the results. The President is well within the threshold to request a recount and we will immediately do so.”--MICHIGANThe Associated Press declared Biden the winner of Michigan at 5:56 p.m. EST Wednesday after conducting an analysis of votes and remaining ballots left to be counted. It showed there were not enough votes left in Republican-leaning areas for Trump to catch Biden’s lead. Biden had a 70,000-vote lead on Wednesday evening, a margin over Trump of about 1.3 percentage points. It's the third state President Donald Trump carried in 2016 that the former vice president has flipped, narrowing Trump’s path to reelection. On Thursday, a Michigan judge dismissed the Trump campaign's lawsuit over whether enough GOP challengers had access to the handling of absentee ballots, the AP reported.--GEORGIAThe Associated Press has not declared a winner in Georgia’s presidential contest because the race between President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden is too early to call, with outstanding ballots left to be counted in counties where Biden has performed well. Early Wednesday, Trump prematurely claimed he carried Georgia. But the race is too early to call because an estimated 4% of the vote still remains to be counted. That includes mailed ballots from population-dense counties in the Atlanta metro region that lean Democratic. Biden is overperforming Hillary Clinton’s 2016 showing in those counties — including in their more upscale suburban reaches. 2594

The First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs will reopen its sanctuary as a memorial on Sunday, one week after a gunman killed 25 people and an unborn child. In a Saturday news release, the Texas church invited the public and the media to the memorial to honor the dead, saying it had "undertaken several projects to help the healing process for the families and the community," one of which included restoring the church's sanctuary."Through generous volunteer efforts and offers from several individuals with varying fields of expertise," the statement read, "the scene of this unspeakable event has been transformed into a beautiful memorial that celebrates and pays tribute to the lives that were lost." 716
The FDA said in a news conference on Friday that there have been “roughly" five adverse reactions to Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine, which began distribution earlier this week.According to FDA and Pfizer officials, 2.9 million doses of the vaccine was distributed this week. Those doses mostly went to health care workers and those living and working in assisted living facilities. It’s unclear exactly how many of those 2.9 million doses have been administered, as of Friday.Dr. Peter Marks, director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, told reporters on Friday that one of the five adverse events caused a serious reaction. Marks did not go into detail on the locations or conditions of all the cases. The FDA has not responded for a request for additional information.Marks said that a case in Alaska was the most serious of the reactions being investigated.“We will continue to watch these closely. It is difficult to talk about them without any kind of good certainty until we have more information on them,” Marks said.FDA officials said that it’s possible the reactions were from the vaccine’s active ingredient polyethylene glycol. According to government information, the ingredient can cause known side effects such as bloating, diarrhea, nausea, cramps, gas and hives.FDA administrator Dr. Stephen Hahn said that the vaccine’s monitoring program is working well.“One of the things the FDA does well and uniquely is really getting to the bottom to events like allergic reactions,” Hahn said.On Friday, a second vaccine received FDA authorization. The vaccine from Moderna received an emergency use authorization, which means the vaccine can now be administered outside of a clinical or hospital setting. 1736
