A family from Connecticut got quite the surprise when their 10-year-old son was called for jury duty.Fifth grade student Nick Dondero received the letter in the mail summoning him to show up.While the family found it a bit comical, they’re wondering how it even happened in the first place.Nick’s mom laughed about it and tucked it away.“Two, three weeks later, I’m going through to pay bills and I’m like ‘oh my gosh, I never sent this back,” she said. Each year, more than 550,000 people in Connecticut are selected for jury duty. The Connecticut Judicial Branch gets a list of names from four places: The Dept. of Motor Vehicles, the Dept. of Labor, Registrar of Voters, and the Dept. of Revenue Services. The list of names the Judicial Branch gets from Revenue Services does not include the date of birth. That is where Nick’s name came from and why he was summoned.“I was wondering what if I don’t go, I wanted to know if that was going to be a problem,” Nick said.It wasn’t a problem. The Judicial Branch said the Dondero family did the right thing. They checked a box on the summons letter saying he was underage and sent it back. Now, 10-year-old Nick is in the clear and does not have to report for jury duty. 1225

A 70-year-old physician accused of cheating at this year's Los Angeles Marathon has died by suicide, officials said.Dr. Frank Meza, 70, was found dead in the Los Angeles River last Thursday. The Los Angeles County coroner's office listed his cause of death as "blunt force traumatic injuries" and said the manner of death was suicide.Last month, Meza clocked an astonishing time of 2 hours, 53 minutes and 10 seconds at the Los Angeles Marathon. It would have been a record for his age group. But that record was thrown out after marathon officials said they reviewed security footage and showed Meza leaving and re-entering the course at different places.Last week, Meza's widow said she didn't believe her husband would have taken his own life. But Meza's family did say he was under enormous stress over his disqualification and the cheating claims made in blog posts and media reports. And they believe he was treated unjustly."He was targeted, bullied and we tried to defend him the best we could," his daughter Lorena Meza told CNN on Friday. "He was so devastated that people could actually believe this."How the race officials and others say he cheatedThe controversy started after Meza, a retired South Pasadena physician and a longtime runner, finished the Los Angeles Marathon on March 24.His 2:53:10 time across 26.2 miles -- averaging about 6:37 minutes per mile -- was extraordinary at his age.The total time would have been more than a minute faster than the 1485

WASHINGTON, D.C. – When the impeachment inquiry kicked off nearly two weeks ago, truth became part of a political tug of war. “Lots of bombshells,” said Louis Michael Seidman, a Professor of Constitutional Law at Georgetown Law. He has been studying the impeachment process since the Nixon years and said, whether or not a crime was committed, is not necessarily the point when it comes to impeachment. “The standard is not the criminal law,” Seidman said. “The standard is whether he is abusing the powers of his office and doing the job that he's supposed to do to make sure the laws are faithfully executed.” Most House Republicans have backed Trump and don’t appear to be budging. "The American people sent us to Washington to solve problems, not to wage scorched earth political warfare against the other party," said Rep. Devin Nunes, R-California. So now what? Based on all the testimony, the House Intelligence Committee will send any materials it collected and a report to the Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary Committee may hold its own public hearings or depositions. Those members will then decide if impeachment goes to the full House for a vote. Impeachment requires 218 members to vote for it – there are 233 Democrats in the House. If it passes, it moves to the Senate, where a trial is held, with Senators acting as the jury. There are 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats and two independents in that chamber – removal from office requires a two-thirds vote there. Despite those numbers, Professor Seidman cautions against trying to predict an outcome. “It's just a fool's errand to predict with any certainty how this will end,” he said. It’s an end that will decide whether or not a sitting president is removed from office. 1755
