SPRING VALLEY, Calif. The five-and-a-half foot, 35-pound lizard was hiding in brush near the pet store. The area had been searched at least 10 times, according to Estevez, but was likely sleeping, camouflaged in the brush, or climbed out of sight.Bubbles was a little dehydrated and hungry when found but was quickly fed, Estevez said.10News reporter Michael Chen visited Mike's Pets after news of Bubble's return:The lizard's time on the lam inspired a Twitter account dedicated to the lizard. 1096

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — With the United States grappling with the worst coronavirus outbreak in the world, Florida hit a grim milestone Sunday, shattering the national record for a state’s largest single-day increase in positive coronavirus cases. In Florida, where parts of Walt Disney World reopened Saturday, 15,299 people tested positive, for a total of 269,811 cases, and 45 deaths were recorded, according to state Department of Health statistics reported Sunday. The numbers come at the end of a record-breaking week as Florida reported 514 fatalities — an average of 73 per day. Three weeks ago, the state was averaging 30 deaths per day.The World Health Organization reports that daily global infections hit over 228,000 last week, and the U.S. confirmed over 66,600 new cases on Friday, another record. 823

Sheriffs in at least eight counties in Texas have said that they will not fine or cite those who violate Gov. Greg Abbott's executive order that requires Texans to wear masks in public.According to The Washington Post, sheriffs in Denton, Nacogdoches, Smith, Upshur, Kerr, Gillespie, Panola and Montgomery Counties have already said they cannot — or will not — enforce the order. CBS News also included Houston County in a list of countries not requiring masks.Abbott — who previously blocked cities and countries from instituting orders requiring masks — signed the executive order last week. It says those who repeatedly violate the order could face a citation and a fine of up to 0, but adds that violators cannot be detained or jailed. The Post reports that the sheriffs object to enforcing the order for a number of reasons. Some said that they could not enforce the order because stopping a person on the street constituted "detaining" them. Other sheriffs said the citing violators was discriminatory because the order includes exemptions for those attending religious services. Still others say they lack the resources to track repeat offenders properly. In a lengthy Facebook post, Denton County Sheriff Tracy Murphee took issue with the order because it was not passed by the Texas legislature."The order is not a law, there is no requirement that any police officer enforce it, and it's unenforceable," Murphee said. "We can't spend our time running from place to place for calls about mask we can really do nothing about. Like I said I will comply because I want to comply. I won't and I don't believe I can take any enforcement action on this order."After Murphee announced his opposition to enforcing the order, a Denton County resident launched a Change.org petition calling for his removal. The petition has received nearly 5,000 signatures.Abbott's order says his order does not apply in counties with less than 20 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Some sheriffs in rural counties have said they will not enforce the order if they reach that threshold. 2070

Shante Wilkerson bought her first used phone in 2016, and she’ll never go back to buying new.“I can’t justify it financially,” she says. “If a new phone isn’t free, I don’t get it.”But carriers no longer hand out free phones in exchange for a two-year contract. Instead, customers now pay the full retail price — anywhere from 0 to ,000 for the latest smartphone — in monthly installments over 18 to 24 months. You’re not locked into a contract like before, but you still need to pay the remaining balance on your phone if you cancel your service. That’s a lot of money. Buying a used phone can cut your device costs in half, but the appeal of purchasing a pre-owned phone goes beyond price. The benefits of buying used 740

Springtime is one of the busiest times to buy and sell a used car, but if you’re looking to buy, you’ll want to check a few things you probably never thought about. Here is advice Consumer Reports has when buying a used car:When buying a car, most customers check out the vehicle history report, which is what you should do. But, one thing the report won’t tell you is if that car was used as a ride sharing vehicle for Uber or Lyft.Without this information, you’ll want to check the mileage. A telltale sign a car was used for ride sharing is a newer car that has a lot of miles. Next, check the rear seat for excess wear and tear. You’ll also want to look for residue from stickers. Uber and Lyft drivers have to display their stickers on the front or rear windshields. If there are signs that the car was use for ride sharing, you’ll want to reach out to the manufacturer, not the dealer, to ask how many miles remain covered on the warranty. Whenever purchasing a used car, remember have it inspected by an independent mechanic. 1053
