For example, a fear of dogs.  "If they take their fear head on and go to the dog park straight out then they're going to save themselves a lot of time of working up step-by-step," Shanley says.  Not everyone can go that far that fast. But Shanley says there has to be some level of exposure to make progress. Not just to fears on the outside, but on the inside.  "Part of the exposure is actually flooding them to those scariest thoughts," Dr. Shanley says.  If a person were afraid of elevators or tight spaces, overcoming the fear is about more than riding from floor to floor.  "You more want them actually thinking all the worst case scenarios so that they know that the next time they need to get into the elevator they can do it whether they are having happy thoughts or negative thoughts," Shanley says.  And when facing a fear of heights, the same principles apply.  "I would ask the person to, all right can you climb up here?" Shanley says. "And then as they are climbing up I would also be telling them, all right now look down and think about wow that's a long ways down and what if I fell?"  Dr. Shanley says these are all things you can try on your own, and repetition is key."Without it their success rate of the treatment is a lot less," Shanley says.  And don't be shy. Shanley says if you don't face your deepest, darkest fear, it could come back. Something to keep in perspective when things get a little dirty."I don't have to like it. So, maybe you’re feeling stressed, but what are the signs you may be dealing with something more concerning.“If you’re mind is racing with thoughts you don’t really have control over anymore, so that it becomes kind of impossible for you to be able to calm yourself, that can be a sign that anxiety is really getting out of control,” said Hupfeld.According to the mayo clinic, these are some of the signs of an anxiety disorder.Feeling nervous, restless or tenseHaving a sense of impending danger, panic or doomTrouble concentrating or thinking about anything other than the present worrytrouble sleepingHaving difficulty controlling worrySo what can you do if you’re feeling like this?“You can turn your television off, you don’t have to watch it. Similarly to Thanksgiving, you can actually get up from the table, you don’t have to stay,” said Henderson.If watching a debate or constantly getting news updates makes you feel stressed, take a break from the news, social media, and other things that trigger stress.Henerson also suggests asking yourself a question.“How does this impact me right now?” said Henderson.Henderson says these are big issues that do affect all of us, but it’s unlikely to change your day to day right away, so don’t let the stress impact your day to day either.“Really evaluate sort of an in the moment type of way, what impact does this have on me? The city of Houston, we spend million a year cleaning out our drains.”Down the drains and into waterways, where the health impacts could be significant.“Unlike sewage systems, storm water is untreated and it flows directly into our lakes and our rivers and our oceans. There’s no intermediate treatment,” said Rachel Meidl, LP.D., CHMM, a fellow in energy and environment at Rice Univeristy. She says trash attracts trash and that PPE litter is a problem, not only in Houston but around the world.“As it concerns the pandemic, it’s how do we manage it,” Meidl asked.For some Houstonians, the answer to that question is simple.“It takes five seconds of your time to find a trash can,” one local man said about properly disposing PPE. “Just do it.”Just do it: another famous slogan from another famous campaign, something Castex-Tatum hopes Houston can replicate.“It’s important for people to know the message the message that we are trying to send with the anti-litter campaign,” she said.That message is clear: don’t let Houston go to waste.“I hope this inspires other cities across the country to also kick off anti-litter campaign,” Castex-Tatum said. 2113

  

It seems people are not letting the coronavirus pandemic damper their holiday spirit as more than 3 million travelers took to the skies the weekend before Christmas.According to The Transportation Security Administration daily tally tracker, 1,064,619 people flew on Sunday, 1,073,563 traveled on Saturday, and 1,066,747 were screened on Friday.This marks the first time since March 16 that checkpoint numbers were over 1 million on consecutive days.Despite an increase in travelers, the amount of Americans traveling before Christmas was nowhere near the amount that traveled the weekend before Christmas last year - that weekend, TSA screen 7.6 million Americans.The surge in travelers comes despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advising Americans to stay home and not travel during the holiday to slow the coronavirus spread. 854
