JAKARTA, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Marine scientists will begin conducting an ecological survey in eight locations throughout the resort island in Indonesia's Bali province that could be developed as marine managed areas due to their biodiversity and coral structure, the Jakarta Post quoted an expert as saying on Wednesday.The survey, which will take place from April 29 to May 11, will be carried out by four international scientists and local scientists from universities.Ketut Sarjana Putra, the marine program director with Conservation International Indonesia, said Tuesday the survey was aimed at identifying marine species and their population in each of the eight locations.Selected from 25 potential marine conservation zones, the eight locations are Pulaki and Pemuteran, Lovina, Les Village, Tulamben and Amed, Padangbai, Nusa Penida, Bukit Uluwatu Peninsula and Perancak Beach. "We will go around Bali, starting from Sanur in the south, heading east, then covering the northern and the western areas, then back to the south," Ketut told the daily.The survey is part of a process to build a network of marine protected areas to effectively manage the island's marine and coastal resources to sustain environmental and socioeconomic value and benefits, with priority given to the eight locations.

N'DJAMENA, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno said Wednesday while meeting visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi that his country is willing to expand cooperation with China in infrastructure building, agriculture, health care and other fields.During the meeting with Yang, who arrived here Tuesday for an official visit, the president said the Chadian-Chinese relations are based on equality, mutual respect and noninterference in each other's interior affairs. LUQA, Malta, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- A chartered plane of China Eastern Airlines carrying 272 Chinese evacuees from Libya left Malta for Shanghai on Saturday.The Airbus A330-300 plane took off at 8:20 p.m. local time ( 1920 GMT) from the Malta International Airport, to be followed shortly by another chartered plane of China Eastern Airlines with 278 Chinese evacuees on board.The 550-strong Chinese nationals from a Chinese construction company were among a total of 2,216 people who arrived by a ship from violence-torn Libya at the Grand Harbor in Valletta, capital of Malta, on Saturday.In addition to the 2,216 Chinese nationals, the ship chartered by the Chinese embassy in Malta also carried dozens of citizens of other countries.The vessel, which was the first Maltese ship chartered by the Chinese government to evacuate Chinese nationals, left Libya's Benghazi on Friday.Maltese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tonio Borg, who went aboard the ship, expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for helping to evacuate some Maltese nationals from Libya.Chinese Ambassador to Malta Zhang Keyuan also thanked the Maltese government for its cooperation in the evacuation of Chinese nationals.A 19-day-old baby was among the evacuated Chinese, said a source with the Chinese embassy.China Eastern Airlines will fly four planes every day to the Mediterranean island nation from Feb. 28 to March 10, as part of all-round airborne evacuation missions aimed at taking stranded Chinese citizens back home as soon as possible, according to information from an emergency meeting of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in Beijing on Saturday.

BEIJING, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's foreign exchange watchdog said Thursday that the surplus of Chinese banks' foreign exchange purchases to sales in client transactions increased 51 percent through 2010 to stand at 397.7 billion U.S. dollars at year-end.China' s institutional and individual clients sold 1.33 trillion U.S. dollars in foreign exchange to banks in 2010 while purchasing 932.7 billion U.S. dollars, said the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) in an online statement.In 2009, the annual surplus fell 42 percent to 263.5 billion U.S. dollars, according to SAFE's data released in March 2010.The statement noted the figures did not include banks' own forex transactions and interbank transactions.The forex surplus in December 2010 totaled 51.5 billion U.S. dollars, as clients sold 146.2 billion U.S. dollars of foreign exchange, up 13 percent from November, while purchasing 94.7 billion U.S. dollars, up 12 percent, it said.Chinese banks received 1.89 trillion U.S. dollars for their clients in overseas business in 2010 and paid 1.59 trillion U.S. dollars to overseas business, it added.The SAFE only began releasing monthly and quarterly data on bank foreign exchange transactions in 2010.
